F1 heads to Brazil amid Sao Paulo crime wave

A nervous F1 circus has travelled to Sao Paulo for F1's 2012 finale, amid reports of more than 1000 murders in the Brazilian city this year. Britain's Guardian said the worse-than-usual bloodshed is due to drug-linked organised crime. "We are not staying in gangland, though the track is near there," a team boss is quoted as saying. "But we don't go out in team colours." Jenson Button, who two years ago was the victim of an attempted armed attack in Sao Paulo, admitted this week: […]

2012 title race becoming two-horse race now

With six races to go, F1 2012 is becoming a two-horse race, according to former grand prix driver Karl Wendlinger. Before pole sitter and runaway race leader Lewis Hamilton's McLaren gearbox failed on Sunday, his boss Martin Whitmarsh had admitted the outcome in Singapore would be crucial to the world championship. Indeed -- instead of being 27 points behind with six races to go, the Briton now trails Fernando Alonso by a whopping 52 points. Hamilton said afterwards that he will "never give up". But […]

Barrichello would consider F1 comeback invitation

Rubens Barrichello has once again refused to rule out returning to Formula One. The Brazilian, who with almost 330 grand prix weekends in his pocket is the sport's longest serving driver of all time, told a German magazine last week he can still imagine "a way back" to the grid. Barrichello, who at 40 is three years younger than Michael Schumacher, switched to the US-based Indycar series for 2012. "My problems have been with the tracks than are much bumpier than the ones in Europe," […]

Kobayashi targets maiden podium

Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has targeted a maiden podium in the remaining nine races of the 2012 season. The Japanese driver sits tenth in the championship and all nine drivers above him have finished on an F1 podium this season. "I want to get my first podium in Formula One, because this is definitely within reach with this car", said Kobayashi, who finished a career best fourth in July's German Grand Prix. Kobayashi was also mindful of protecting Sauber's 6th place in the Constructor's Championship. […]

Exclusive Interview with Luiz Razia

Arden International's Luiz Razia is currently second in the GP2 championship. Fresh off the back of a win in the sprint race in Spain, he talks to F1Zone.net Q: How has the GP2 season been so far for you? Luiz Razia: Challenging. The most important thing is to keep pushing myself to be on top every session, give 110% every time in the car and create good opportunity to score points every time. Q: What do you think you have to do to overhaul Davide […]

F1 2012 'a 1000 piece puzzle' says Schumacher

F1's new face of 2012 is polarising the sport. It seems teams, drivers and spectators alike either love or hate the new great influence brought largely by Pirelli's new generation of tyres. An admitted critic is Michael Schumacher. "It's a 1000 piece puzzle that you need to put together at each race," said the seven time world champion, according to Auto Motor und Sport. Not for three decades have four different drivers driving for four different teams won the opening four grands prix of a […]
