Maldonado: Error cost me Q3 shot

Pastor Maldonado believes that an error on his final flying lap in Q2 cost him a shot at competing in the top 10 shootout during qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. Maldonado was eighth quickest in Q1 but ran wide at Turn 19 and ended the second knockout session in 11th position. However, the Venezuelan will start from 10th place as a result of Jenson Button's gearbox penalty. "The car feels more solid and together than it has for the last few races which […]

Lotus deputy team principal Federico Gastaldi praised the efforts of Pastor Maldonado during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Lotus struggled for pace at Monza and while Maldonado came home in a lowly 14th place, Gastaldi was quick to heap praise on his Venezuelan charge. "We saw a very strong race today from Pastor who didn’t put a foot wrong and extracted the maximum from our current package," he said. "14th isn’t where we want to finish but today’s race did give us some signs […]

Maldonado sure of top 10 challenge despite 'unlucky' crash

Pastor Maldonado says he is confident of fighting for the top 10 at the Belgian Grand Prix, despite crashing out of second practice during the opening stages. Maldonado lost control of his Lotus E22 exiting Turn 9 and sustained heavy damage to the Lotus E22, truncating his session early on. Maldonado was taken to the medical centre but was quickly released without any issues. "I went for a quick check-up, they said I was okay and I went straight to the garage," he said. "For […]

Lotus duo sure of ending barren run

Lotus duo Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado remain confident that they can challenge for points on a consistent basis across the second half of the 2014 Formula 1 campaign. Lotus has endured a trying season, with Grosjean's eighth place finishes in Spain and Monaco accounting for all of their points this year. Nonetheless, both drivers are sure that they can fix the issues plaguing the E22 and return to the top 10 positions. "Since Monaco we have had a succession of really hard races where […]

Lotus hopes to retain Grosjean

Lotus deputy team principal Federico Gastaldi says he hopes current driver Romain Grosjean will remain with the team in 2015. Grosjean has been affiliated with the Enstone-based team for several years, having acted as Renault's test and reserve driver in 2008, before he stepped up to a race seat towards the end of 2009. He departed the set-up before winning the GP2 title and earning a return to the squad, re-branded as Lotus, for the 2012 season. He has since claimed nine podium finishes. Lotus […]

Maldonado excluded from qualifying results

Pastor Maldonado has been excluded from qualifying at the British Grand Prix after Lotus was unable to provide a sufficient fuel sample. Maldonado stopped on track during Q2 due to a lack of fuel in his Lotus E22 and as a result, could not provide the mandatory one litre sample to the FIA stewards. Maldonado originally qualified in 15th position, but will now start from 20th place, ahead of the Caterham drivers. "We had a lack of fuel during the second qualifying session which meant […]

Maldonado hoping to end points drought

Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado says he is hoping to end his points drought at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix. Maldonado has not finished in the top 10 of a race since the Hungarian Grand Prix last July, but the Venezuelan - who was unable to start in Monaco due to a fuel pump failure - is hopeful of ending that barren run. "I think it would be good to have a trouble free weekend and finish the race strongly in the points," he said. "With […]

Lotus duo struggling with tyre temperature

Lotus duo Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean say they are struggling because of tyre temperature issues in Monaco. Maldonado and Grosjean were 14th and 16th quickest during the second free practice session but both drivers say that the main problem with the E22 is getting the tyres up to temperature. "It was a difficult session because the track was not [there], but there’s no problems in the car," said Maldonado. "This morning we ran a lot and did some tests. We are struggling a bit […]

Confidence required in Monaco - Grosjean

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean says having confidence is key to achieving a strong weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix. Grosjean, who collected Lotus's first points of 2014 in Spain last weekend, has never finished in Monaco after crashing out of the races in 2012 and 2013. The French driver, who regards the race as an 'unofficial French Grand Prix' says the changes made to the cars in 2014 will provide a different approach for the drivers. "It will be a challenge," he said. "There will […]
