Daniel Ricciardo expressed his elation as Red Bull overhauled Ferrari during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. Ricciardo completed only a single run in Q3 but it was sufficient for the Australian to qualify in third place, with new team-mate Max Verstappen in fourth place. Ferrari was unable to respond to the times of Ricciardo and Verstappen, leaving Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel in fifth and sixth. "Firstly I'm really happy to be back here in this press conference, I'll try and be here tomorrow," […]

Ricciardo eyes first podium of 2016

Daniel Ricciardo says the layout of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, home to this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, presents Red Bull with an opportunity to fight for the podium positions. Ricciardo's maiden Formula 1 podium came at the circuit two years ago, when he placed third, and the Australian began 2016 with a string of fourth place finishes in Australia, Bahrain and China. Ricciardo, who will be joined this weekend by Toro Rosso graduate Max Verstappen, is confident the RB12's traits will enable the outfit to […]

Ricciardo expects apology from Kvyat

Daniel Ricciardo says he expects an apology from Red Bull team-mate Daniil Kvyat for triggering a first lap collision at the Russian Grand Prix. Kvyat braked late into Turn 2 and struck the back of Sebastian Vettel, which sent the Ferrari driver into the path of Ricciardo, causing damage to the Australian's RB12. Ricciardo was forced to pit for repairs following the incident and trailed home in 11th place, after completing the remainder of the race on a single set of Medium tyres. "I expect […]

Ricciardo debuts 'aeroscreen' during practice

Daniel Ricciardo publicly debuted Red Bull's ‘aeroscreen’ head protection device during free practice for the Russian Grand Prix on Friday. Red Bull has designed the system as an alternative to the ‘halo’ system, which was developed by Mercedes and the FIA, before being trialled on the Ferrari SF16-H during pre-season testing. Ricciardo completed an installation lap at Sochi with the canopy, dubbed the aeroscreen, attached to the RB12. The FIA confirmed that Red Bull last week conducted static tests, with a wheel fired at the […]

Ricciardo says China race 'equal best' of career

Daniel Ricciardo reckons his performance in the Chinese Grand Prix was the 'equal best' of his Formula 1 career as he recovered to fourth after an early puncture. Ricciardo started from the front row of the grid and snatched the lead off the line from Nico Rosberg, though as the Mercedes breezed past a few laps later the Australian suffered a right rear puncture. Ricciardo was able to return to the pit lane but slid down the order, before mounting a charge which left him […]

Ricciardo delights in 'awesome' front row spot

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo says the outfit did not expect to qualify on the front row of the grid in China, as he set the second fastest lap in Q3. Ricciardo edged ahead of both Ferrari drivers during his final run in Q3 to qualify second to Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg. It is the fourth time in his career that he will line-up from the front row of the grid as he equalled his best qualifying result. "To be honest inqualifying I didn’t think we […]

Ricciardo admits reaching Q3 a challenge

Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo believes he faces a challenge to reach the final segment of qualifying after Friday's pair of practice sessions at Sakhir. Ricciardo, who finished in fourth place in Australia, placed ninth in the second session in Bahrain. A repeat result on Saturday would leave Ricciardo eliminated in Q2, under the revised qualifying format of eight Q3 contenders. "This morning wasn’t too bad but from the very first lap this afternoon I locked the front into Turn 1 which killed that set […]

Ricciardo happy to be close to podium

Daniel Ricciardo expressed his happiness as he was able to finish the Australian Grand Prix in fourth place, behind only the Mercedes and Ferrari drivers. Ricciardo started from eighth place but made progress at the expense of the Toro Rosso drivers and passed Williams' Felipe Massa to move into fourth, collecting his best home result. "Today was fun for me, it was so good to be back racing," he said. "I came on the radio more than once expressing my joy to just being out […]

Vettel/Ricciardo receptive to being team-mates

Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo say they would have no problems being team-mates again in the future, if such a situation arises. Vettel and Ricciardo linked up at Red Bull in 2014, with the Australian edging out the four-times World Champion, before Vettel departed to Ferrari. Vettel's current Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen has a contract which runs until the end of 2016, prompting suggestions that the outfit could eye Ricciardo for 2017, most prominently from 1980 champion Alan Jones. "I don’t know if Seb wants […]

Ricciardo encouraged by first run in RB12

Daniel Ricciardo says he is encouraged by Red Bull's RB12 after sampling the car for the first time during pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Ricciardo clocked a time of 1:26.044 to end third fastest, clocking up 87 laps at the home of the Spanish Grand Prix. "That was pretty good," he said. "I think we had a few niggles but we still managed almost 90 laps. "It was a day for testing reliability: for me, seeing how fit I am after a long […]

Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull is "95% where we want to be" in Abu Dhabi after Friday's pair of practice sessions at the Yas Marina Circuit. Ricciardo was fourth quickest in the twilight second session in his RB11 and is hopeful that the squad can keep Ferrari and Williams at bay across the remainder of the weekend.
