Ricciardo rues 'lonely, boring' race to fourth

Daniel Ricciardo labelled his British Grand Prix as "lonely" and "boring" as he finished adrift of the leading trio in fourth position. Ricciardo dived into the pits to change from Wet to Intermediate tyres, hoping to profit as Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Max Verstappen stayed out. However, the Virtual Safety Car was implemented when Pascal Wehrlein spun off at Abbey and the lead trio were permitted to minimise their time loss when they also dived into the pits. It left Ricciardo significantly behind the […]

Verstappen eyes podium after edging Ricciardo

Max Verstappen is hopeful that he can convert his grid position into a podium at the British Grand Prix after he out-qualified Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo for the first time. Verstappen collected third place on the grid, with Ricciardo in fourth, behind Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. "I’m not focusing on trying to beat my team mate, the points come from the race so that is the important part for me," he said. "The car has been performing brilliantly all weekend so […]

Could Red Bull beat Hamilton in Sepang?

One of the best Grands Prix of the season featured close racing, heartbreak for Lewis Hamilton with a late race engine failure and a fascinating strategic battle at the heart of it, as Red Bull challenged Mercedes in a war game. For the second season in a row the dominant Mercedes team did not win in Malaysia, as Nico Rosberg fell to 21st at the start and Red Bull split the strategies across its two cars to attack Hamilton. There is much to digest and […]

Ricciardo upbeat over Red Bull potential

Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull is "pretty close" to where it wants to be following Friday's practice sessions for the Austrian Grand Prix. Ricciardo, who celebrated his 27th birthday on Friday, was fifth quickest during both sessions as Mercedes' Nico Rosberg led the way. Red Bull has struggled at its home event since the circuit returned to the calendar in 2014 but Ricciardo is optimistic over its potential this weekend. "I think we’ve had a pretty good day and didn’t fight the car too much […]

Ricciardo to stay with Red Bull until 2018

Daniel Ricciardo has formally confirmed that he will remain with Red Bull until at least the end of the 2018 Formula 1 campaign. Ricciardo was a member of the Red Bull junior squad and graduated to Formula 1 with HRT in 2011, before switching to Toro Rosso in 2012. Mark Webber's retirement opened up a vacancy at Red Bull and the team elected to promote Ricciardo; during his first campaign with the outfit he collected three wins and finished third in the standings. Ricciardo duly […]

Ricciardo sure of better Austria showing

Daniel Ricciardo says he expects Red Bull to have its best chance yet of performing strongly at its home race as it prepares for next weekend's Austrian Grand Prix. Austria returned to the Formula 1 calendar with a race at the Red Bull Ring in 2014, but Ricciardo finished only eighth, while last year he finished at the foot of the top 10. Ricciardo, who finished seventh in Canada and Baku, is nonetheless anticipating Red Bull to be able to fight for the top five. […]

Ricciardo: Tyre wear triggered two-stop approach

Daniel Ricciardo says excessive tyre degradation caused Red Bull to switch to a two-stop strategy during the European Grand Prix. Ricciardo started from the front row of the grid and maintained his position across the opening couple of laps, before he was demoted by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel. Ricciardo switched from the Super Soft to the Soft tyres but continued to struggle and required a second stop, during which he took on a set of Mediums, recovering to seventh place. "We were forced that way, the […]

Ricciardo explains crash at 'unique' circuit

Daniel Ricciardo thanked his Red Bull mechanics for an "awesome" repair job after he crashed out of the first practice session for the European Grand Prix. Ricciardo slid wide exiting Turn 15 during the first 90-minute session and caused substantial damage the right rear of his RB12 after hitting the wall. Red Bull was able to mend his car in time for the second session, in which he set the 10th quickest time. "It’s pretty unique and as I showed this morning some of the […]

Ricciardo: Traffic scuppered race prospects

Daniel Ricciardo reckons getting stuck behind rivals compromised his prospects of achieving a stronger result at the Canadian Grand Prix. Ricciardo started from fourth place on the grid but was overhauled by team-mate Max Verstappen at the start, as the pair attempted to negotiate Nico Rosberg when the Mercedes driver re-joined the circuit. Ricciardo was unable to pass Max Verstappen and after a second stop later in the race he emerged behind Kimi Raikkonen, ultimately finishing in seventh place. "The start initially was okay, the […]

Ricciardo: Red Bull has outside chance of win

Daniel Ricciardo reckons Red Bull has an "outside chance" of a win during the Canadian Grand Prix, and is hoping for a "five or six way fight" for overall honours. Red Bull opened its 2016 account in Spain courtesy of Max Verstappen while Ricciardo was on course to triumph in Monaco prior to a pit lane blunder. Ricciardo will start the Canadian Grand Prix from fourth place on the grid, two years on from his maiden Formula 1 win at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. "I […]
