Force India 'quite difficult to drive'

Force India drivers Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil say that the VJM06 proved tricky to drive during practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. Di Resta was fourteenth fastest during a second practice session that included a spin under braking at the Casio triangle. "The car was quite difficult to drive today, but we’ve worked hard to try and optimise the balance," said di Resta. "After each run, we changed some things and I think we’ve learned a lot as a result. The long run […]

Detached wheel and crash hinder Maldonado

Williams driver Pastor Maldonado endured a 'frustrating' day of practice ahead of this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix. Maldonado lost a wheel during first practice and had to sit out the rest of the session. Early on in the second session, Maldonado crashed out at Degner curve. "It was a frustrating day today as I didn't get the amount of time on track that I would have liked," he said. "My FP1 session ended early after a problem with my left-rear tyre, and at the beginning […]

Ricciardo encouraged by 'positive' Friday

Daniel Ricciardo says he is encouraged after a positive day of practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. Ricciardo completed 30 laps on his way to setting the seventh fastest time in second practice. "I’ve been hoping to have a Friday like this one for a while now even if, of course, it’s the Saturday and Sunday that’s important," said Ricciardo. "So I am glad that I was tenth in the morning and seventh this afternoon, which is a good sign for us. It’s a complicated […]

Vettel leads Red Bull one-two in second practice at Suzuka

Sebastian Vettel led a Red Bull one-two during second practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. Vettel was almost two-tenths of a second faster than team-mate Mark Webber. Nico Rosberg was third, with Kimi Raikkonen in fourth. The Finn's day ended prematurely when he spun off the circuit at the Esses and beached the Lotus E21 in the gravel with 25 minutes of the session remaining. Romain Grosjean was fifth, while Lewis Hamilton, who was fastest in first practice, ran wide on his hot lap and […]

Japanese Grand PrixView

Formula 1 heads straight to Japan after last weekend's Korean Grand Prix, for round 15 of the Championship. Suzuka is a favourite circuit for many drivers because of its classic layout and its fast and technical characteristics. There are no room for mistakes at Suzuka as the circuit features a combination of corners which flow together, denying the drivers any rest. The circuit is equally challenging for the teams, who need to find a compromise for a good overall car balance. Suzuka has a high-downforce […]

Grosjean pushing to beat Raikkonen

Romain Grosjean says that his battle with Kimi Raikkonen during the Korean Grand Prix shows that both drivers are extracting the maximum from the Lotus E21. Grosjean was Sebastian Vettel's main challenger until the deployment of the safety car and was subsequently passed by Raikkonen, following a mistake from the French driver. Grosjean finished the race in third place, behind Raikkonen, for the third time this season. "If we’re fighting for the same piece of track and the same position then it means we’re both […]

Raikkonen sure that Lotus can win again in 2013

Kimi Raikkonen believes that Lotus can win another race before the end of this season. Raikkonen won the opening race of 2013 in Australia but in spite of finishing on the podium a further seven times, he has yet to add to his victory tally. Raikkonen has won at three of the five venues that Formula 1 has yet to visit this year and took his only victory of 2012 in Abu Dhabi. "Qualifying was pretty awful for me in Korea, but it’s difficult to […]

F1 2013 by Codemasters review

The fourth iteration of Codemasters’ Formula 1 game has been released this week as the franchise focuses not only on the 2013 season but also on some classic content. The five 2013 rookies feature in the game, naturally, but the demise of HRT and the Valencia Street Circuit removes a little content from the experience. As with 2012’s version, the game begins with the young driver test at the Yas Marina Circuit – even though the real one took place at Silverstone - where players […]

Mechanical issue hits Toro Rosso

Neither Toro Rosso driver finished the Korean Grand Prix as an issue under braking forced both cars out. Daniel Ricciardo was on course for points but pulled off of the circuit with a couple of laps remaining. "I think we did all we could today in the race. I had a decent first stint and tried to run as long as possible on the Prime tyre," said Ricciardo. "The car wasn’t perfect but it was good enough to be in a points position with a […]

Webber targets fightback from thirteenth

Mark Webber says that he had to compromise the set-up of his Red Bull RB9 as a result of his 10 place grid penalty in Korea. Webber was given a third reprimand of 2013 following the Singapore Grand Prix. The sanction means that Webber, who set the third fastest time in qualifying for the Korean Grand Prix, will start the race from thirteenth on the grid. "We had to take a bit of pace out of the car for qualifying, not much, but it was […]

Raikkonen sure Lotus can be competitive

Kimi Raikkonen says that the Lotus E21 feels strong at the Korea International Circuit, despite the Finn crashing out of first practice during the final minute. Raikkonen lost control of his car exiting the final corner and hit the barriers. His car was repaired in time for Raikkonen to return to action early on in second practice, where he set the eighth fastest time. "Obviously it didn’t help that I destroyed part of the car this morning; maybe I ran out of talent there! It […]

'Problematic' Friday for Toro Rosso

Jean-Eric Vergne bemoaned a 'problematic' Friday for Toro Rosso after practice for the Korean Grand Prix. Vergne was fifteenth fastest in both sessions at the Yeongam circuit and says that the STR8 lacked balance. "We had a problematic Friday, with the main difficulty having to do with the balance of the car," said Vergne. "We are not too sure what is the cause of these problems, so it will be a long night to study the data to try and find a solution. Strangely, the […]
