F1 return 'nearly impossible' admits Kubica

Robert Kubica has admitted it is unlikely he will ever return to formula one. Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali admitted recently that, prior to the Pole's horror rally crash of early 2011, Kubica was a front runner to become a driver for the fabled Italian team. "Unfortunately, I don't think he will be back," said Domenicali, referring to the limited mobility of 28-year-old Kubica's right arm, which was almost severed in the crash. Indeed, former BMW and Renault driver Kubica admitted in an interview with the […]

Kvyat qualifies for F1 super licence

Daniil Kvyat has qualified for his F1 super licence. Energy drink company Red Bull has named the Russian teenager as Daniel Ricciardo's successor at Toro Rosso for 2014. But the marque wants to give Kvyat an early start by sending him out for Friday morning practice sessions this weekend in Austin, and the following week in Brazil. Until now, the only spanner in the works has been the new GP3 champion's lack of a F1 super licence, the mandatory FIA credential needed by drivers in […]

Alonso fearful of Ferrari regression

Fernando Alonso says that Ferrari needs to make changes in order to be competitive at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Alonso, who has not won a race since May, was eighth quickest in second practice at the Yas Marina circuit. "Compared to other Fridays, today we were a bit less competitive than usual and now we need to work out if that is down to the fact that the track characteristics do not suit our car, or if it’s a question of set-up," he said. […]

Vettel heads Webber in second practice

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time during second practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Vettel's time of 1:41.335 was a tenth of a second faster than team-mate Mark Webber. "It’s difficult to say today how we compare to the others, we know the Lotus is quick here, but we also had decent pace today," he said. "It’s not always so easy at this circuit with the conditions changing throughout the day; we start in the sun and finish at night and […]

Vettel vows not to change approach

Sebastian Vettel says he will not be changing his approach to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, despite having wrapped up his fourth successive world title. Vettel has won 10 of this season's 16 races and insists that Red Bull will continue to push for victories in Abu Dhabi, America and Brazil. Vettel has claimed pole position twice at the Yas Marina circuit and won the race in 2009 and 2010, clinching his maiden title at the latter event. He retired on the first lap in […]

Abu Dhabi Grand PrixView

The titles may be wrapped up but there are still three Formula 1 races to win before the season is over. The first of those takes place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull are the 2013 champions but the Formula 1 season is not yet over. Three teams are in the fight for second place in the constructors’ standings while there is still a mathematical possibility for any of the five drivers behind Vettel to be crowned vice-champion. […]

Mallya: India an economy F1 can't ignore

Sahara Force India co-owner Vijay Mallya says that Formula 1 cannot ignore the potential that India has to offer. India joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2011 but there will not be a race at the Buddh International Circuit in 2014. Officials at the circuit have stressed that the event will return to Formula 1 in early 2015. "India is an economy that cannot be ignored," says Mallya. "This country has enormous potential, not just for Sahara Force India, but in terms of all the […]

Vier-tel joins the legends: Indian Grand Prix review

Sebastian Vettel claims his sixth successive victory, his 10th of 2013, at the Indian Grand Prix, giving him and Red Bull Racing an unassailable championship lead as they complete the 'quadruple double'. It was somewhat inevitable. But for Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull, it didn’t make their fourth successive world title any less sweet. Vettel arrived in India on the back of five consecutive victories, with only Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso capable of preventing the title from being wrapped up. Vettel needed just a fifth place […]

Vettel not focused on securing title

Sebastian Vettel says he is not thinking about the world championship after claiming pole position for the Indian Grand Prix. Vettel can wrap up his fourth world title in India if he finishes in the top five or if Fernando Alonso fails to finish first or second. "The car felt good all weekend and it just got better as the track improved," he said. "The car was amazing; it’s a great circuit, I really like the flow of it, especially around the middle sector with […]

Vettel stays ahead during final practice

Sebastian Vettel continued his good run of form in India after setting the fastest time during a truncated final practice session. Vettel's time of 1:25.332 was half  second faster than team-mate Mark Webber. The 60 minute session was reduced for 40 minutes due to visibility problems at the Buddh International Circuit. The lack of visibility meant that the medical helicopter was unable to operate, but race control deemed the situation to have sufficiently improved for the session to begin 20 minutes late. Fernando Alonso was […]
