Ericsson to start from pit lane

Marcus Ericsson must start the German Grand Prix from the pit lane after a Parc Ferme violation by Caterham. Caterham 'failed to cover and seal car 9 at 18:39 [on Saturday],' according to the Stewards. The Swede, who qualified in last place following a hydraulics issue on Saturday, must also serve a 10 second stop and go penalty within the opening three laps of the race. 'The reason for the dual penalties is to serve as a disincentive to a breach of Parc Ferme resulting […]

Caterham plagued by problems in Germany

Caterham's difficult season continued as both drivers suffered technical issues during practice for the German Grand Prix. Marcus Ericsson suffered an oil pressure problem in the CT05 but was able to return to the circuit and set the 20th fastest time. But team-mate Kamui Kobayashi's day ended early after he pulled to the side of the circuit with flames trickling from the back of his car. "The car balance felt much better with the changes we made over lunch but it immediately felt like it […]

Kobayashi hoping to show Caterham progress

Kamui Kobayashi is hopeful that he can show the progress Caterham has made as the season reaches its halfway point in Germany this weekend. Caterham was bought by a consortium of Swiss and Middle Eastern investors prior to the British Grand Prix, a race which Kobayashi feels did not reflect accurately on the squad's progress after a series of issues across the weekend. The Japanese driver was hit by an ERS problem during qualifying and damaged his car on the opening lap of the race […]

Leal earns Formula 1 superlicense

GP2 racer Julian Leal has earned his Formula 1 super license after driving the required 300km at the third in-season test at Silverstone. Leal rounded out the runners as he tested for Caterham, finishing 7.3s slower than fastest driver Jules Bianchi. Leal stopped due to a CU-H (the control unit of the MGU-H part of the Power Unit) failure at the end of his first lap, which meant he sat out most of the session. "At the end of the session I’d completed 51 laps […]

Kobayashi 'lucky' to avoid Raikkonen crash

Kamui Kobayashi has admitted that he was fortunate to escape during the opening lap of the British Grand Prix following Kimi Raikkonen's accident. Kobayashi approached the wayward Ferrari driver and jinked to the left, bouncing across the grass along the Wellington Straight to ensure that he did not strike the F14T. "My start was okay and I was ahead of a couple of cars but then saw the Ferrari impact and had to go way off track to avoid hitting him," he said. "I made […]
