Merhi 'ready' if Singapore call comes

Roberto Merhi says he would be 'ready' if Caterham opted to hand him his Formula 1 debut at the Singapore Grand Prix. Merhi tested a Formula 1 car for the first time when he participated in practice at Monza, where he set the 22nd fastest time and edged out Caterham team-mate Marcus Ericsson. While Merhi has now handed control of the CT05 to Kamui Kobayashi for the remainder of the weekend, Formula Renault 3.5 frontrunner Merhi says he would be ready if Caterham called him […]

Kamui Kobayashi will return to the cockpit of the Caterham CT05 for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, although he will not run in the first practice session with the team opting to give Roberto Merhi a run. "I am working for Caterham and I always respect team decisions," said Kobayashi. "Now I am […]

Lotterer could return for Caterham at Monza

Mere days before the Italian grand prix, the identity of Caterham's second race driver is still unclear. Reports from Japan suggest Kamui Kobayashi will definitely not be back at the wheel of the car at Monza, having already sat out Spa-Francorchamps. After reigning Le Mans winner Andre Lotterer and his sponsor Hype filled in at Spa, it was expected that Spanish rookie Roberto Merhi and his Russian backers had now put up the rumoured EUR 300,000 for the Monza seat this weekend. But new speculation […]

Andre Lotterer hailed an 'amazing weekend' despite having to retire from the Belgian Grand Prix on the second lap. Lotterer, making his Formula 1 debut with Caterham, qualified in 21st position but suffered a sudden power loss and had to retire the CT05. "I didn’t even get the chance to sweat unfortunately," he said. "I was really looking forward to a good race and I had a good start, but then I went a bit wide at turn 17 and there was a sudden loss […]

Lotterer upbeat over debut qualifying run

Andre Lotterer expressed his satisfaction after qualifying in 21st place for his maiden Formula 1 race in Belgium. Lotterer, who joined the team earlier in the week, managed to set a time almost a second faster than Caterham team-mate Marcus Ericsson. "This is definitely a speedy way of learning how to drive an F1 car! Yesterday was dry while today was wet, so all this is now covered and I know exactly what to expect in both those conditions," he said. "I think it was […]

Ravetto confirms new nose for Caterham at Spa

New team deputy Manfredi Ravetto has confirmed Caterham will debut a new nose at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. After founder Tony Fernandes' exit and the new management's ousting of 40 staff, the struggling backmarker team pressed the throttle on a development push in the hope of re-capturing the lucrative tenth in the constructors' championship. The first fruits of that effort, involving a wind tunnel programme at Toyota's Cologne facility, includes a new nose to replace the unique and unseemly 'double' nose at the front […]

Kobayashi: New owners saved Caterham

Kamui Kobayashi says that Caterham was unlikely to finish the 2014 season, had the squad not been taken over. Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes, who started the operation at the end of 2009, sold the team to a group of Swiss and Middle Eastern investors prior to the British Grand Prix at the start of this month. Kobayashi believes that while Caterham still faces an uphill task, the sale of the team was the right move. "I was quite [surprised] having these changes during the season […]
