Ericsson bringing millions to Caterham

Marcus Ericsson is bringing more than EUR 11 million in Swedish sponsorship to Caterham this year, the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat claims. While the popular, experienced and feisty Kamui Kobayashi can put just $1 million of his fans' money on the table, and agree to drive for free in 2014, the little-known Ericsson has been referred to as a fully-fledged 'pay driver'. Kobayashi turned down Ferrari for Caterham

Kamui Kobayashi has revealed that he turned down the option of an improved Ferrari programme in order to sign for Caterham. Caterham confirmed on Tuesday that Kobayashi will race for the team in 2014, alongside Swedish rookie Marcus Ericsson. Caterham future dependent on 2014

Caterham team owner Tony Fernandes says that his team must make progress in 2014 or he is likely to walk away from the project. Fernandes has been part of the team since its foundation as Lotus in 2010 but the squad has yet to score a point in four seasons of racing. Frijns joins Caterham as reserve driver

Robin Frijns has joined Caterham as the team's official test and reserve driver. Frijns won the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2012 and participated in selected GP2 rounds in 2013. Kamui Kobayashi will return to Formula 1 this season after signing a deal to race with Caterham. Kobayashi drove for Toyota at the end of 2009 before racing for Sauber between 2010 and 2012. Caterham confirms Marcus Ericsson for 2014

Caterham has confirmed that Marcus Ericsson will make his Formula 1 debut for the team in 2014. Ericsson won three races across a four year period in GP2 and finished a best of sixth in the championship in 2013. Ericsson will become the first Swedish driver to race in Formula 1 since Stefan Johansson in 1991. Ericsson will race alongside Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi. Giedo van der Garde has joined Sauber as their test and reserve driver for the 2014 season. Van der Garde raced for Caterham in 2013 but will now switch to Sauber, acting as reserve to race drivers Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez. Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul has confirmed that Charles Pic has left the team. Pic raced for Caterham in 2013 and originally joined them on a multi-year deal.
