Kobayashi concedes Renault behind rivals

Caterham driver Kamui Kobayashi has conceded that Renault powered teams are currently unable to compete with rivals Mercedes and Ferrari. Renault has endured a troubled start to 2014 when problems at the first test in Spain restricting the running of Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Caterham. Pic joins Lotus as third driver

Charles Pic has joined Lotus as the team's third driver. Pic has spent the last two years racing in Formula 1 with Marussia and Caterham but did not retain his seat for the 2014 season. Frijns pleased with Caterham progress

Caterham reserve driver Robin Frijns says he is pleased with the team's progress since the first test at Jerez. Frijns opened proceedings in Bahrain for Caterham and set the seventh quickest time. The Dutch driver completed 68 laps. Renault have insisted that they are not 'months' behind schedule but admit that they are behind rivals Mercedes and Ferrari. Lotus form hindered Kovalainen - Fernandes

Caterham team owner Tony Fernandes says that Heikki Kovalainen's form during the final two races of 2013 played a part in the Finn missing out on a 2014 seat. Kovalainen raced for Caterham between 2010 and 2012 and remained with the team as their reserve driver for 2013 after failing to retain his race seat. Renault admits Jerez performance not acceptable

Renault's technical deputy managing director Rob White has conceded that the French's company's performance at the Jerez test was not acceptable. The three teams powered by Renault at Jerez managed just 151 laps, compared to the 444 completed by rivals Ferrari and 875 by Mercedes powered outfits. Renault issue restricts Jerez running

Renault's head of track operations Remi Taffin has admitted that the French engine supplier is facing problems, but is hopeful that the situation will improve for the final two days of the Jerez test. Renault powered cars managed just 19 laps on Wednesday, with Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Caterham all restricted by a suspected battery problem. The team hopes that the CT05 will take Caterham to their first top 10 finish in a Formula 1 race as they approach their fifth year of competition. Frijns gets Jerez test outing

Caterham reserve driver Robin Frijns will have his first outing for the team at the first test of the season next week. The Dutch driver will test the Caterham CT04 on Thursday at Jerez next week. Caterham will hand the first two days of running to rookie driver Marcus Ericsson. Formula 1 returnee Kamui Kobayashi will drive on the final day of the four day test.
