Hamilton encouraged by Mercedes reliability

World Champion Lewis Hamilton says he is encouraged by the progress Mercedes has made in terms of reliability but warned that the squad can still improve. Hamilton completed 101 laps on Saturday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and finished the day third quickest. On Friday, Hamilton and Nico Rosberg shared duties and racked up over 150 laps without the car encountering a major technical problem. "[It's] too early to say but of course we’ve done some great mileage and there’s been a lot of attention […]

Vettel downplays Ferrari pre-season pace

Sebastian Vettel says that Ferrari's pre-season pace counts for little, despite rivals continuing to talk up the Italian squad's chances. Both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton hinted this week that Ferrari has made progress, while Daniel Ricciardo said on Thursday that he was surprised by Kimi Raikkonen's pace. But Vettel downplayed Ferrari's form after he ended the third day of testing in fifth position. "I would rather wait and see, it depends much more where you are at the races, I don’t recall – well […]

Fernando Alonso expressed his happiness after enjoying McLaren's most productive day of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Friday. Alonso completed 59 laps in the McLaren MP4-30 at the Spanish venue and ended the day in seventh position. "Definitely we had a better day today, we could complete some runs and we run at 9am and finish at 5.45pm which is good news finally," he said. "We could test some of the potential of the car, complete laps, check many systems we could […]

Hamilton not fussed by headline times

World Champion Lewis Hamilton says he is not bothered by Mercedes' absence from the top of the time sheets, as testing reached its halfway mark at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Friday. Hamilton, who sat out most of Thursday's running due to a fever, took over from team-mate Nico Rosberg for the afternoon session in Spain and registered the fifth quickest time after racking up 89 laps. Mercedes has yet to finish a day of testing on top of the times, but Hamilton says he […]

Sainz Jr laments 'difficult day'

Carlos Sainz Jr. was left to rue an error at Turn 9 during the afternoon session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which scuppered his race simulation for Toro Rosso. Sainz Jr. lost control of his car at the quick right hand corner and the session was halted while his car was removed from the gravel. "A slightly difficult day, a typical testing day, in that we had a few issues with the car in the morning," he said. "We managed to work around them to […]

Rosberg plays down neck injury concerns

Nico Rosberg played down the scale of his neck injury, which caused him to sit out the afternoon session on day two of the second test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Rosberg completed 66 laps before sitting out the remainder of the day as a precaution. Rosberg played down the concerns and said that a change of seat position led to the problem. Wolff and Nasr divided on crash

Williams driver Susie Wolff and Sauber rookie Felipe Nasr provided differing perspectives on what caused their collision during testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. During her post-test meeting with the media, at which F1Zone.net was present, Wolff provided assembled journalists with video footage obtained by race control. The footage showed that Wolff, on a slow lap, moved over on the outside approaching Turn 5. Nasr was arriving at the corner with speed and as he tried to maintain the optimum racing line, he clipped the […]

Ricciardo wary of Ferrari pace

Daniel Ricciardo says that he is not worrying about Red Bull's position in the pecking order, but is nonetheless wary of Ferrari's pace. The Italian squad set the pace during three of the four days of the first test at Jerez and the Finn was again rapid as testing resumed at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Thursday. While Pastor Maldonado clocked the overall quickest time, Raikkonen set his time on the slower Medium compounds - compared to Maldonado's Softs - with Ricciardo third, also on […]
