Sutil hails 'very important' result

Adrian Sutil hailed Sauber's effort during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix as he achieved his best grid position of the season. Sutil and Sauber have endured a difficult 2014, with neither party having scored a point. But Sutil made it through to Q2 at the Hungaroring and he netted 12th place on the grid. "It was an exciting qualifying," he said. "12th is my best result so far this season. We were quite competitive today and so driving is much more fun. Although it […]

Sutil encouraged by Sauber improvements

Adrian Sutil says he has been encouraged by the improvements made by Sauber at last weekend's German Grand Prix. Sutil spun out of the race during the closing laps but he was upbeat, having raced with rivals which had previously been too quick for Sauber. Sutil has yet to score a point in 2014 but believes Sauber's progress is reason for optimism, ahead of this weekend's race in Hungary. "It was quite encouraging to have the last race at Hockenheim; we were much closer and […]

Sutil encouraged despite 'difficult day'

Adrian Sutil says he is encouraged by Sauber's position in the pecking order despite enduring a 'difficult day' during practice for his home race in Germany. Sutil, who has yet to score a point in 2014, briefly topped the second practice session at Hockenheim and eventually ended 11th quickest. "It was a difficult day," he said. "Because of the high temperatures it was not easy to find a good set-up. However, this was the same situation for everyone. Due to the extremely high track temperatures, […]

Sutil struggling with recalcitrant Sauber

Adrian Sutil expressed his frustration with the handling of the Sauber C33 after a difficult second practice session at the British Grand Prix. Sutil was 18th quickest, having had to sit out the first session in favour of Giedo van der Garde. "It was difficult to feel comfortable with the car during the afternoon session," he said. "The set-up was not ideal, and that’s why the car did not react in a way we hoped for. We changed something, but didn’t get the reaction we […]

Pit mix-up hinders Sauber progress

A sequence of errors resulted in a difficult afternoon for Sauber at the Austrian Grand Prix as neither Adrian Sutil nor Esteban Gutierrez were able to score points. Gutierrez was released from his first stop without the right rear tyre attached but in radioing the Mexican to stop, Sauber inadvertently gave the message to Sutil, who naturally obliged. Sutil slowed and lost almost 10 seconds until Sauber realised their error. "From a driving perspective, it was a good race," said Sutil. "I had a good […]

Sutil: Sauber has deficiencies in most areas

Adrian Sutil has admitted that Sauber is lacking competitiveness in most areas of the C33 after he was the slowest of the runners during Q2 for the Canadian Grand Prix. Although the German driver managed to make it out of the first knockout session, he was six-tenths slower than nearest rival Daniil Kvyat during the second segment and will consequently line up from 16th on the grid. "Once again, this was not an easy qualifying," he said. "However, we made it into Q2 this time, […]

'Snappy' C33 hindering Sauber - Gutierrez

Esteban Gutierrez says that the ill-handling nature of the Sauber C33 is hurting the team at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix. Sauber has failed to score a point so far in 2014 and their fortunes barely improved during practice, with Gutierrez in 16th place, one position ahead of team-mate Adrian Sutil. "It’s been a tough day," said the Mexican. "We had some technical problems this morning, which is not ideal because we lost valuable track time. This afternoon we managed to solve the issues we […]

Contrite Gutierrez devastated by 'most painful mistake'

Esteban Gutierrez apologised to his Sauber team after the 'most painful mistake' in his career. Sauber has struggled in 2014 but Gutierrez was in eighth place when he clipped the inside barrier at La Rascasse, causing terminal damage to his C33. Gutierrez's shunt, combined with other results, left Marussia's Jules Bianchi in ninth place - a result which means Sauber is now behind Marussia in the championship. "Unfortunately, I could not finish the race," he said. "It was probably the most painful mistake in my […]

Sauber duo disappointed after qualifying

Sauber duo Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil expressed their disappointment following a poor showing during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. Neither Sauber driver was able to progress through to Q2, with Gutierrez in 17th narrowly eclipsing Sutil. "It was not a positive qualifying for the team, so we cannot be happy with today’s outcome," said Gutierrez. "We are on the edge of getting into Q2, so every minor incident on track is affecting us massively. Today it was a big challenge to find a […]

Sutil: C33 still needs improving

Adrian Sutil says that the driveability of the Sauber C33 still requires improvement ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. Sutil was 13th quickest during the second free practice session but crashed out of the first session after losing control at Mirabeau. "At the end of FP2, we were able to run a few laps on supersoft tyres, which worked out well," he said. "The car’s balance is decent. In general, we still have issues which we need to solve. The driveability needs to be […]

Sutil aiming to end Sauber points drought

Adrian Sutil says he heads to this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix with the aim of ending his and Sauber's points drought. Sauber has yet to score a point in 2014 with Sutil finishing the Spanish Grand Prix in a lowly 17th position. But the German has occasionally starred in Monaco - as he did in 2013 when he battled his way to fifth place when driving for Force India. "The Monaco Grand Prix is a very nice event every year," he said. "I really like […]

Gutierrez: We achieved maximum

Esteban Gutierrez admitted that he achieved the maximum result possible during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. The Mexican racer, driving a lighter Sauber C33, put his car in 14th place during Q2. "That was the maximum we could achieve today," he said. "Considering the difficulties I had yesterday, the team did an excellent job to put things right for today. We definitely still have issues which we have to solve, but being closer to the competition is motivating us. "Obviously, we are not completely […]
