Disappointing qualifying for Ferrari

For the third race in a row Fernando Alonso was the only Ferrari driver in Q3 today. Nevertheless his best lap was only good to take tenth place.

“Obviously we are not happy with today’s performance. We are not delivering what we were supposed to deliver every weekend. Some of the new parts are not working so we are loosing a little bit of our pace comparing to top teams.”

He find it hard to believe that Ferrari was the fastest car on track two month ago and they are one second slower now. “We are not developing the car good enough, it’s true, but also here on the track maybe we don’t find the right set up at the right moment and the tyres are not working perfectly.”

“I don’t want to complain about Pirelli. There were others complaining when they were not performing well. Now we are not performing well because the car is not performing well, because here on the track all of us are not doing a job good enough. Maybe it’s not the favorite tyre choice for us, for Lotus, it’s not a secret, but if someone with these tyres can do 1.30:2 and we cannot do it than it’s our problem,” he added.

Alonso’s teammate didn’t make it through to Q3 and will start tomorrow’s race from sixth row. Last time Felipe Massa qualified in top 10 was back in Barcelona.

“The car is not working like we were expecting. For example, in Montreal I had a position in qualifying but I was quick in the race. The pace, even in qualifying, was better than what we have here. The car was definitely not competitive there and I think that’s the biggest worry,” says the Brazilian.

“I hope everything change tomorrow and we’ll see a more competitive car in the race. We are struggling more with the new tyres and qualifying here.”
