Turkish delight for Seb's IstanBull

Vettel extends his lead to 34 points with a third win of 2011 After just four races, the rest of the field must be scratching their heads as they work out just how they can stop Sebastian Vettel from storming to his second world title. He took pole position with ease on Saturday and simply cruised away from his competitors on Sunday, stopping a fourth time when he didn’t really need to, and won by 8.8s, a margin that flattered his opponents. For the first […]

Hamilton on top in Shanghai stunner - Chinese GP report

If Malaysia provided Formula One with a great race, then China was even better. There was no need for rain, no need for Safety Cars and no need for controversial collisions. The new rules worked and Lewis Hamilton emerged victorious in an unpredictable race, when the tables turned in favour of various drivers throughout the 56 laps. Sebastian Vettel’s pole lap suggested that if he got to the first corner with his lead intact, it would be very difficult for anyone to stop him. As […]

Vettel at the double - Malaysian GP report

Vettel takes his second 2011 win and extends his lead to 24 points. Pre-race, all the talk was about the weather. With rain having held off on Friday and Saturday, it was destined to come on race day. However, despite a few spots, the anticipated deluge never arrive but instead, the Sepang circuit put on a cracking race, largely thanks to the high wear rate of the Pirelli tyres. Despite all the variables, Sebastian Vettel won for the fourth race running to pull out a […]

Walk in the Park - Australian Grand Prix report

It was a different car on a different track but Sebastian Vettel picked up where he left off with a dominant victory in the Australian Grand Prix, his third win on the bounce but more crucially, he takes a very early advantage in the title race. Having usually started a season poorly – he took 12 points from the first two events in 2010 and failed to score in the first two in 2009 – Vettel set himself the target of starting the season on […]

Australian GP - Qualifying analysis

Everyone thought the new RB7 was fast. But nobody was expecting them to be as quick as they showed in today’s qualifying session. Vettel’s pole lap of 1:23.529 was seven tenths of a second quicker than anyone else could manage, and then on the next lap he did a 1.23.6 just for good measure. Mark Webber was less impressive though as he could manage only 3rd. It looks like it might be a tough task for Webber to keep Vettel in check this season. The […]

Australian GP - Friday analysis

So the first proper day of the new F1 season started with a tame couple of sessions but certainly raised a few eyebrows. McLaren going 1st and 2nd in FP2 was certainly a shock for the majority of the paddock, who had written off the MP4-26 after an awful winter. It is only practice, but whatever McLaren has done appears to be working. Red Bull took the honours in the first session and it appeared to be that they focused on race pace in the […]
