Silly season 2013-14
Re: Silly season 2013-14
Hülkenberg was clever not to go to Lotus without signing a contract for 2014. Surely he would have closed the door for staying at Sauber by doing so. Moreover, he can't know if he can get better results in a car he has never driven. Pleased for Heikki, hopefully he enjoys the last two races of his career.
Re: Silly season 2013-14
Problem is we dont know if Sauber will have him anyway. Maldanado; 30million. Perez: close number to that. Hulkenberg: zero. Sauber aren't comitted to him, neither are Force India after he dumped them for their closest rival. Lotus couldve been a door into them for 2014 but he's put off by the financial situation of the team, yet is it not true Sauber hasn't paid Hulk either?Edi96 wrote:Hülkenberg was clever not to go to Lotus without signing a contract for 2014. I reckon he has shot himself in the foot.
Re: Silly season 2013-14
Logical choice, from a sporting viewpoint Heikki is probably the best or safest option available. I feel sorry for Valsecchi, though, there goes his best chance: doesn't seem likely that he'll have a 2014 drive, and by 2015 he'll be pretty much forgotten.
Re: Silly season 2013-14
I agree with this. Good move by Nico, he's kept his options open. Grosjean's in top form and is one with his car, he'd have a hard time beating him at this point in this season.Edi96 wrote:Hülkenberg was clever not to go to Lotus without signing a contract for 2014. Is Heikki confirmed for Lotus? I haven't seen an announcement. There's so many drivers with no seats now!

Wouldn't it be amazing if McLaren went for it and announced Hulkenberg and Magnussen..?
Re: Silly season 2013-14
Hah, if only McLaren could be that exciting again!

In my opinion Perez had his best year so far in his career in 2011 where he showed fighting spirit and skills. I agree with you about last year's podium finishes.mikhailv wrote:I said last year Perez was over rated and his podiums were reverse strategies after saturday failures on his laps! Re: Silly season 2013-14
The timing is strange, because there's just a few days until Perez's home race. Maybe he pushed for the news to come out now so that he could attract sponsors.
Re: Silly season 2013-14
So Lotus asked Schumacher to replace Raikkonen. It's stupid, I know it would have been a disaster but I'd still have loved to have him on the grid.
Re: Silly season 2013-14
Deffo his best season and deserves another next year. Pretty much killed his career though now. I increasingly dislike Mclaren these days.naiego wrote:In my opinion Perez had his best year so far in his career in 2011 where he showed fighting spirit and skills. Re: Silly season 2013-14
As a matter of fact I feel sorry for Perez. After having a great 2012 season he arrived at McLaren having high hopes. I was thinking that he can even win races with McLaren but MP4-28's problems meant that he could only fight for points and not even podiums. And now he has to leave McLaren without achieving anything special. At best he will find a seat in Force India for 2014. and I doubt Force India can provide him with a race winning car. Such a pity.
A craven can be as brave as any man, when there is nothing to fear. And we all do our duty, when there is no cost to it. How easy it seems then, to walk the path of honor.
Re: Silly season 2013-14
Mclaren have killed Perez's career to be frank. Its not the first time though Mclaren have ruined drivers. Even if they weren't WDC material, they were still great drivers. DC, Montoya, Heikki, Perez. They are all good or great drivers who were either opressed or weren't given chance to develop. Its like with Kovy, he went there in his second season as a number 2 and then the next year he was in a bad car, did well at the start but not soe well towards the end.
This is the problem with Mclaren, they try to get a star driver, they end up ruining their relationship with said star driver, and they scramble to recover from the loss but by doing so they just expect too much too quick instead of allow driveers to develop or adapt. They aren't attractive as a team anymore, they've already lost Alonso, Kimi and Lewis. Vettel wouldn't think once about going there let alone twice. Theres a reason.
