Do you drive an engine or a power unit?

Post by F1EA » 24 Jun 2013, 02:31

So... F1 is moving to a more mass-appealing new engine for next year. Actually, a power unit.....

But what do F1 fans drive?? It's a non-race sunday and i'm curious...

mikhailv I love your car man. It was my favourite in Need for Speed, and I used to tune the hell out of it :p

lol cheers TD. Unfortunatly, you cant tune them in real life very easily. An exhaust system, decat and a cold air intake is all you can do to it unless you install a Turbo costing around £5000 alone for the parts. You can remap it, but you will gain little.

End of the day, a 350z with a supercharge will push a good 400bhp while the RX8 would struggle to get 320bhp with a turbo and cost twice as much as the 350z. But I love my RX8, and theres only 100 of them in this colour ever made in the UK

Nice. That's a fun car to drive!
Definitely falls into the "other" category as you don't see that engine often.

I drive an I6 on a rear wheel drive (guess the make haha). I'm pretty happy with it... wish i would have MT, but manual + lots of hills and city traffic, sometimes snowy... is not a great idea.

But yea, that rotary is fun as hell... The highest revving engine i've had was a 1.8L Alfa Romeo twin spark, and boy that was fun. The handling was superb. I'd say Alfa make the best handling front-engine, fwd cars...

Its a supreme car. Handling is brilliant, perfect 50-50 weight distribution. I spent £800 on some Advan Neova AD08 semi slick tyres. It was the 787b which made me love rotaries. Johnny Herbert raced it to le Mans victory in 1991;

Shame they dont make any production cars with rotaries anymore.

I run a 2-liter Audi AEG straight 4 normally-aspirated in my 1999 VW Beetle. Great little engine, but it runs hot in warm weather.

Well next year I will be moving on from the rotary engine. I've decided to go against my former word and turn Diesel. To be precise, 3.0d Ford AJD-V6 twin turbo. Goin Jaguar XF!

Pretty much how I would like mine to look. Remapped, these make between 280-300bhp.
