2010 Turkish Grand Prix

Post by Tom Vandenhove » 16 May 2010, 17:10

Istanbul Park will be the host for the 7th round of the 2010 Formula One Season. It'll be held on May 30th, 2010. Normally this race is quite boring. But with the safety car coming out 4 times in Monaco, we can expect anything to happen. Even here..

Currently the weather in Turkey looks good. Clouds but mainly sunny. Some websites expect showers on May 24/25.. But according to the same websites the weather gets better again after that.

Who will take pole and the win?
What can the midfield teams do?
Will the Red Bull's be the team to beat again?
Will we finally see an exciting Turkish Grand Prix?
...

:!: Don't forget about the Prediction League !

I'm at Pinkpop that weekend. And the GP after this one, I'm at Le Mans.. Mixed feelings both weekends. I think Hamilton can do well here: Turkey is a bit like Catalunya. I think this year McLaren has the car for those tracks. But Red Bull will only be beatable by reliability issues IMO. They're uncatchable

Odd as it has the 5th highest average for number of passes of all the tracks used.
In the last 5 seasons it's had 26, 27, 16, 11 and 11 passes. Shouldn't be too bad.

Well, we've seen in Barcelona that the Red Bull is mighty through the fast corners. So I don't think they have a problem locking out the front row and scoring 1, 2 finish. If the cars will last through. Behind them, I think McLaren will be good. Like in Barcelona. But you can not count out Fernando Alonso as well. I think Mercedes will be down the order, as they were more then a minute down on Red Bull in Barcelona.

Agreed, the only way the Red Bull will be beaten, is by a failure on the car or a driver failure. They will be the pacesetters again.

They were fast in Barcelona. They say that whoever is fast there, is fast everywhere. If they keep going like this, the championship is within hand reach. Although reliability remains an issue. Mclaren and Mercedes are very reliable, so they, and Ferrari will pick up the points if Red Bull retires. As we've seen earlier in the season.

It's got to be between the Red Bulls, whoever takes pole will win. I'd go with Vettel as he seems to deliver that extra tenth in qualifying but it will be fascinating to see if Webber can take the fight to him again. If Massa can't beat Alonso here then he won't do it anywhere and he'll be looking for a new seat next year. Hamilton will probably out pace Button but we'll see whether he can keep his tyres usable for long enough this year. Schumi and Rosberg should have another close fight but if Mercedes dont find some pace here, their season must be over in terms of fighting for the title.

I think a lot depends on which tyres Bridgestone will carry to Istanbul. If it´s the same compounds like Monaco then Ferrari might have a chance. Otherwise Red Bull will walk this race again with McLaren second fastest and Ferrari in third, Mercedes fourth.

Red Bull will be comfortably 1-2. They were supreme in Spain and Turkey is a lot like Catalunya, only with more fast corners which suit Red Bull. And they have a big aero upgrade coming...

that all sounds good, but mechanical failures can always come, brakes, sparks, tyres... anything is possible, we will see :shhh:

If massa doesnt beat Alonso straight in this race on raw pace (as this is famed as HIS track along with possibly Interlagos), then I think he wont be wearing red overalls next year.

Otherwise, Im looking forward to Mclaren vs Ferrari, as ferrari are massively overhauling their version of the F-duct, and apparently Im sure i heard on the BBC coverage that the Ferrari one works better than MC's, bar one handed drivingness!

otherwise, I hope one redbull crashes whilst the other drives terribly. Im hoping for a Brawn issue to appear, where redbull just dont improve and start to go back, to give some excitement. Otherwise its going to be the same as the first 6 races of last year. or 2000-20004.
