FIA delegate Bonciani has reported to the press that Bianchi's state is critical but stable. The press quoted him as saying "understand, it is very, very serious", showing visible affection as he seems to have been quite close to the Frenchman. Jules's family has arrived from France and are now by his side.

Yikes, I found another source for the vid (dailymotion.fr). You don't see how he lost the car, just the impact. That was even more brutal than I thought, it looked like a direct hit from the left front side.

No wonder that F~0~M didn't show any footage. This is really bad for the FIA... the recovery work had been underway for more than a minute when the accident happened, with three marshalls on foot who could just as easily have gotten hit. The impact was so strong that the truck dropped the Sauber, mere feet away from crushing a marshall.

The amount of risk there was inexcusable. The race direction made a critical mistake. Procedures as well as individual responsibilities will have to be looked at.

Oh my god.

Definitely lucky if he still has ANY chance at all... that was brutal. Wow.

BTW the stewards were waving greens and switched to yellow only after the crash... that's a big problem/mistake. Should have been yellow all along.

That's a tricky one. The waved flag is like a road sign, it only applies after you cross it, not as soon as you can see it. In this case, the waved green flag obviously was for the zone beyond the post: you can see that they wave double yellows when the truck is past that point, and only turn to green after the truck has moved back to the previous zone, covered by yellows which aren't in the picture. That it still a poorly situated post, and investigations will have to establish whether ambiguous signaling played a part in the tragedy.

To me it's all a moot point, since this was an absolutely no-brainer Safety Car situation. The cover-up job is nicely underway, with a couple of Whiting's best buddies already spewing nonsense, but these pictures leave no doubt as to the unbelievable mistake that was made.

Really horrific crash. Let's hope we hear some good news regarding his situation soon .

As for the waved flags, I think the marshal did nothing wrong since he started waving green flag as the crane was behind his zone, and surely there were yellow flags waving behind to warn the drivers .

The incident where Brundle hit a marshall who was working on the recovery of a stricken car in 1994 took place on the same curve. I guess nothing was learned that day, and a young a likeable guy is paying the price today.

This is easily the most horrific accident I've ever seen, and I just can't fathom why an entire lap continued at racing speeds while marshals and a tractor were on the outside of one of the fastest corners on the circuit. In years gone by, the safety car was called out for incidents far less severe than Sutil's shunt - why not yesterday?

Jesus, how lucky were the marshals at the front of the crane handling the Sauber? The one on the left in the video in particular did well to let go and dive out the way.

Terrible, horrendous crash! Probably the worst ever in F1... Against the back of a tractor??? Poor Jules... My best thoughts for him!
Anyway, lucky people out there... We could easily be talking about 3 or 4 people seriously injured... or dead as I saw the speed as he arrived there...
I hope some lessons are taken from this...

I remember watching a truck on the track being overtaken by a F1 car in one of the 70s F1 videos. If I remember correctly, the truck was removing a crashed (burned) car... but it was using the same track with the F1 cars!!! Crazy, hum???

I also remember recently watching the 1989 Suzuka race onboard [Senna vs Prost] and, in the beginning, there´s a tractor working on the Sss (before the Dunlop curve) on yellow flags (no safety car usage back then) and thought that it´s pretty scary if you loose it there... against it... and now it has happened... on the rain, on the same track and in the next curve...

This is one step further than Stewart and Lauda. According to Mosley, everything was done the way it should! No responsibility from the marshalls or (especially not) the race direction. How very surprising. However this dickwad wasted no time in suggesting that Bianchi failed to slow down sufficiently for the yellow flags. Nevermind that the GPS telemetry showed he entered the corner slower than the majority of his rivals! And that the amount of slowing down required by yellow flags is a gray area that the FIA has failed to police properly for decades.

Damage control at its finest, just disgusting.
