Look at the bright side! Now spectators doesn't even need anything to close their ears. In particular in 2014, none of the spectators use headphones

IMO, I kinda lost F1 sound, but I also like 2014 sound of engine... err sorry, power units. I think it's smoother, unique, and I think it's still amazing. Even with the lack of noise and sound, gladly it doesn't reduce any speed of the car kinda love it!

IMO, I kinda lost F1 sound, but I also like 2014 sound of engine... err sorry, power units. I think it's smoother, unique, and I think it's still amazing. Even with the lack of noise and sound, gladly it doesn't reduce any speed of the car kinda love it!

Im not happy with the sound, when the 5 lights were on there was nothing that the cars were on high revs.... like with V8.
and also the spectators are louder when cars passing by . I think some of the F1 magic has gone.
Im not saying the sound is c**p, but its not loud enough like before. Even revving my car home at 8 000 rpm is louder than this..
I just want that its loud like before. I never used the earplugs when a F1 passed by 3 meters of me in Monza. Cuz its music to my ears.. and now its everything but music

I don't know what are you all crying about... The engines we had since 2006 were c**p as much as the 2014 power units are, only that these have a nice turbo sound to follow. I never liked the high pitched ear destroyers we got after the V10s. They had less power, the sound was annoying and the magic you are talking about is long gone mate...

I don't know how old you are and I don't want to sound patronizing, but I would advise you to be more careful with your ears. Unfortunately, the treshold for permanent damage is much lower than the treshold for pain or even discomfort (especially if you're enjoying yourself), so it's very easy to damage your ears without noticing it. Protecting them is easy, relatively cheap and won't lessen your experience, so please consider it.

What especially compelled me to react is the part about how it is "music" to your ears. I've been passionate about music since my teenage years and I'm now professionally involved with it, and I wish I had been more careful because my hearing has significantly deteriorated over the years and I've developped disorders like tinnitus. It happens so easily... and there is no way back. Yet, the volume of a fully symphony orchestra is inferior to that of a single F1 car...

The 2014 cars are slower by 3.7 seconds (if we compare the times in FP2 as qualifying was hit by rain).

The difference between the 3 sectors (2013 vs 2014):
S1: 1.37
S2: 0.87
S3: 1.61

The second sector doesn't require a lot of downforce. Red Bull was strong in the third sector which proves the car is good aerodynamically.

Anyway, I read while ago that the cars will be faster than last year's in the second half of the season

It too early to judge then new power units! Don't forget they rotate in 11.000 - 11.800 rpm max that we saw!
It's a long way to rotate in 15.000rpm. Then we can talk for noise!!!

I think it's unfair to say 2014 power units is slower just looking at the lap times.. Because so many things get involved in a lap times. Including the evolution of aerodynamics of course.. So, to compare the engine/power units, I think it's better to look at the horse power they produce (I don't knkw how much each of them, please tell me!). Somehow I notice that 2014 cars seems faster after a turn, so I kinda feel like the cars have more torque or acceleration, and I thought it's simply because of the new power units (I don't know if this is correct or not). And I believe beside the acceleration which seems more or less quite the same, I believe the top speed as well is the quite the same as last year.

If we want to simply compare in lap times, I believe it is fair to compare 2014 times with 2009 times, when aerodynamics was at the beginning of the evolution (the first year after big rule change), or 2010 times when double diffusers were not allowed. Judging by this, I think 2014 cars might be faster than last year cars maybe 1,2, or 3 years later. Maybe sooner!

What is often overlooked or rarely mentioned are the alterations to many circuits between each year's events. Invariably these 'improvements' have a safety slant to them and that more often than not, slows things down. Some of the lap records at certain tracks are a decade old. It's not all down to faster cars all those years ago.

Over on other F1 enthusiasts sites I visit, for several reasons, some posters have expressed their disappointment with the new Formula. I believe they are too quick off the mark... Hey, nearly a racing pun there ... .... I am not one of those who are not happy with the new rules and guidelines and eagerly look forward to all the races under the new "Green Turbo" formula. Bit of an oxy -wossname there ,,
