2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
He had nowhere to go. You come from the pits at racing speed. Vergne shouldve left room instead of forcing him off track. Vergne saw him coming out.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
I reckon they'll look and see who was ahead at the pit exit. If it's Vergne, penalty. If it was Alonso, no penalty.

Well done Vettel and Red Bull for SEVEN consecutive wins.

The disgrace will be if he doesn't.mikhailv wrote:If Alonso gets a penalty for that, F1 is a disgrace.
Vergne had the racing line, and you don't get priority when exiting the pitlane, ever. Alonso had the option of backing down, instead he chose to go all four beyond the edge. He should be thankful there isn't a gravel trap there.
Rather than consider post-race penalties, though, I don't get why race control doesn't immediately instruct drivers to return the position. Anyway, there's no question that the rule was broken here. Don't criticize the stupid Kimi fans if you're going to be just as partial when it comes to your dear Alonso.
Geez why even bother with you.

You don't have to remind us that Vergne is French.François wrote:The disgrace will be if he doesn't.mikhailv wrote:If Alonso gets a penalty for that, F1 is a disgrace.

This was uncalled for. He gave a perfectly reasonable explanation and he is right.Joey Zyla wrote:You don't have to remind us that Vergne is French.
The race was pretty boring, and I think it's unfair that the driver gets penalized for unsafe release. There went Hulk's good result...

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
I don't care. Vergne didn't get a result, and wouldn't have regardless of that specific incident's outcome. I'm more bothered by double standards and how certain drivers seem to get away with more than others, particularly when it comes to the touchy issue of track limits. Try addressing those points instead of looking for national bias?Joey Zyla wrote:You don't have to remind us that Vergne is French.
Re: 2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
I'd like to see another replay. Whoever is ahead at the final pit exit line has priority.

Re: 2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
I think the Alonso/Vergne investigation really is indicative of how ambiguous track limits have become. Yes, the white lines are the standard, but, as we've seen time and time again, there's absolutely no penalty (no gravel trap, barrier) for going off.
I'm not saying that maybe we need to have armco right next to the track, but, if we're going to keep having circuits which are little more than chalk lines drawn on skidpans, drivers crossing over the imaginary track "limit" is something which is going to keep happening. Maybe gravel traps were a good thing - they were a physical deterrent to drivers leaving the racing surface.

Vergne was ahead so I reckon Alonso could be in trouble.

Vettel THE MAN! Amazing drive once again! Destroyed the field, really!!!
Some crazy strategies today and some crazy stewarding today as well. Alonso MUST be penalized for that, it's a clear rule break. Also, Maldonado, WTF? And they punish Hulk again... Unfair.
All in all, Vettel is on his way to break some more records!
