They do. And so came health and safety retardation. 'Motor racing is dangerous' apparently.

The annoying thing is if it had been done safely the FIA would not have taken action. But they did it dangerously. If Rosberg had come round that corner a bit faster he could have ploughed Webber into the back of Alonso's car. That would have been horrible.

We can bemoan 'health and safety', but it's because of people doing stupid things like this we have it. Webber was told not to go onto the track by the marshalls there and he ignored them. Now it looks like taxi rides are going to be banned altogether, which is a real shame and wouldn't have happened if they (but Webber in particular) had acted in a better way.

There was plenty of time to react. Like I said, if Alonso broke down at that place, it would be nothing. Mark was nowhere near being ran over, it was Alonso's position. So, make a mandatory timed lap akin to behind the safety car or to get back from qualifying. Its simple as that.

And I still maintain; what is the difference between Alonso stopping there to pick webber, and the countless times race winners have gone on to run offs to celebrate at snail pace, come back onto the track and cars have had to jink and avoid?

Exactly. Its coming to something when the most dangerous thing in the pinnacle of motorsport is some bloke giving another a lift because two silver cars whinge and whine.

Because a car and a human being are not the same thing.

Unless Webber's a transformer.

Let it be understood, the penalty was a reprimand. Which is entirely reasonable.

Problem is, Webbo had 2 previous.... too bad.

It's a shame it happened this way.... because that was nice to watch. But dangerous.

Yeah exactly, you can't have people running around on the racing line at the exit of a blind corner. A driver doesn't have to be going very fast to hit and injure him. It's different if they hit a car. Not good, but the level of risk is much less.

If Webber had worn Seb's flashing lights helmet there wouldn't have been a problem.

It's annoying how many drivers are chiming in to criticise this without knowing the actual reason for the penalty. They all think it's for the lift, Lewis is the only one who gets it.

Mark Webber has predictably derided it, but even he has missed the point as to why he was penalised.

David Coulthard has criticised the 10 place penalty because Webber is "not a liability", but if he got 3 reprimands those are the rules. You can't have one rule for Maldonado and Grosjean, and another for drivers you deem to be better. That's tough, he shouldn't have ignored yellow flags or hit Rosberg earlier in the season.

It is irritating, ditto with fans.

I agree with the point about different rules for different drivers. Webber pulled off some silly moves in 2009 and for people to *still* criticise Grosjean when he's only had one rubbish weekend in 2013 is really harsh.

Just imagine if Webber kicked a marshal away from him like Mansell did.

[quote="phil1993"]It's completely different.

Webber ignored the marshals, who volunteer their time to keep drivers safe.

quote]

Webber @ AussieGrit tweeted that "contrary to reports ,there was no interaction at all with any track officials after we put the fire out".

I guess most would've read this by now....

I do agree it was good TV, great for fans to see. Sadly we are living in an increasingly sanitized world.
