*This year, the start line moves to the straight between Club and Abbey

The bump at Abbey has been removed (booo, screw you MotoGP) and the DRS zone will be on the Wellington Straight.

Can Vettel win again? After all, there have been 8 different winners in the last 8 races at Silverstone
2010 - M. Webber (Red Bull)
2009 - S. Vettel (Red Bull)
2008 - L. Hamilton (McLaren)
2007 - K. Raikkonen (Ferrari)
2006 - F. Alonso (Renault)
2005 - J. Montoya (McLaren)
2004 - M. Schumacher (Ferrari)
2003 - R. Barrichello (Ferrari)

Code: Select all

01 Sebastian Vettel 186
02 Jenson Button 109
03 Mark Webber 109
04 Lewis Hamilton 97
05 Fernando Alonso 87
06 Felipe Massa 42
07 Nico Rosberg 32
08 Vitaly Petrov 31
09 Nick Heidfeld 30
10 Michael Schumacher 26
11 Kamui Kobayashi 25
12 Adrian Sutil 10

Code: Select all

01 RBR-Renault 295
02 McLaren-Mercedes 206
03 Ferrari 129
04 Renault 61
05 Mercedes 58
06 Sauber-Ferrari 27
07 STR-Ferrari 16
08 Force India-Mercedes 12
And an interesting theory:
I watched MotoGP and the finish line is just after the exit of Club, therefore not too far down the pit lane, negating the damage that the 60mph speed limit would cause. This theory suggests that it is quicker to finish the race on the final lap to go through the pits rather than take the normal circuit. Because you brake later than you would for Vale and simply have to negotiate one corner. If you're a few tenths behind someone on the final lap, it could be worth a punt.

So:
Who will take pole (er, yeah) and the win?
Midfield runners?
Will the famous British weather play a part?
Will the new pit complex work?

Don't forget the prediction competition!

Who will take pole (er, yeah) and the win? Pole surely for Vettel. May be Alonso and Webber can fight with him for the win like in Valencia
Midfield runners? I hope Lotus will benefit from the rule changes and compete with the usual midfield runners like Williams, Sauber, Force India and so on...
Will the famous British weather play a part? Hopefully
Will the new pit complex work? why not?

I can definitely see teams testing and comparing the final lap strategy during practice, and I can also see the FIA probably putting in a terrible temporary chicane (like the back straight for Barcelona 1994) to combat it (if it works).

I'll be there. All 3 days. W00t :) Friday will be roaming the whole circuit, sat/sun will be at Club corner.
I just hope Vettel doesn't run away with it.

I'll get photos up when I can.

Who will take pole (er, yeah) and the win? tought o say considering diffuser ban. i go with vettel and Alonso respectively
Midfield runners? Lotus could be closer but still i dont think they will be able to compete. Expect Sauber to do better
Will the famous British weather play a part? yes
Will the new pit complex work? why not

I hope Lewis will be as good as last year. And anxious to see the pace with the new rules.

I think the drivers who try that will get a 20-seconds penalty after the race :p

I didn't know they changed the start/finish line, I thought they had only renewed the pit complex. :p

Hard/soft compounds will be used at Silverstone. Bad news for Ferrari.
http://www.speedcafe.com/2011/06/30/daniel-ricciardo-to-make-f1-debut-at-silverstone/ wrote:Australian Daniel Ricciardo will make his Formula One debut in the next round of the world championship at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

The West Australian will drive for HRT F1 Team, replacing Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan.

Speedcafe.com understands that an announcement will be made later tonight (UK time).

Early reports suggest that Ricciardo will replace Karthikeyan for the rest of the season, with Karthikeyan stepping back into the seat for the Indian Grand Prix in late October.

Ricciardo, a Red Bull Junior driver currently competing in the World Series by Renault class, will compete ‘on loan’ from Red Bull.

Ricciardo’s F1 debut will be at his ‘home’ GP, as he lives just down the road at Milton Keyes, near the Silverstone.

It will be a big day for Ricciardo tomorrow, who also celebrates his 22nd birthday.

Stay tuned to Speedcafe.com for more news as it breaks.

Its a good move IMO:
Spoiler:
"However, with both Buemi and Alguersuari having lifted their game – and Alguersuari in particular securing his future with a strong drive in the race in Valencia last weekend – it is understood that an alternative plan has been put in place with HRT.

It is understood that Ricciardo will take Karthikeyan's place for the remainder of the season – except at the Indian Grand Prix where the local driver will return to the cockpit.

AUTOSPORT understands that Red Bull chiefs are trying to discover just how competitive Ricciardo can be in a race environment – which is why they want to put him up against former Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso driver Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Any deal with HRT is likely to be only until the end of this season, with Ricciardo then moving to either Toro Rosso next year – or even Red Bull Racing if he impresses greatly"

The last time two Aussies actually raced in the same GP was for the 1977 Austrian GP at the old Osterrichring.
Prince Harry will present the trophy to the winner.
He's dating Button's ex-girlfriend :p
