The former F1 pilot Mika Salo wasn't surprised to see Sebastian Vettel succumb to Jenson Button on the last lap of the Canadian GP!!!: http://bit.ly/jgiQZR Well hard to say, maybe we can see that Valencia?

Wow! Just finished the race delivered from Iceman! Incredible, what a finale after all that rain and wait. JB won what a drive, the best of his career IMHO, from 10 car lengths behind last to 1st and twice as many pit runs as anyone else? AMAZING!!! What a show, so excited....
Would've been nice to see MS on the podium, but Mercedes I think will get there this season, NR or MS? Who can say that will be the luck of the draw for sure.
Thanks Iceman for allowing us with no other way to see F1 a way to watch the greatest sport on earth!!!

Re: Grand Prix du Canada 2011
i agree. the main problem was his last stint, he was too slow going in the 1:19s with Button in 1:17s, then suddenly when Button is about 1.5secs behind he starts rolling out 1:17s which was too lateFrançois wrote: Vettel wasn't too shabby either. I reckon he would've earned tremendous praise for keeping his head throughout the afternoon had he not made that ill-timed error. In hindsight, he was a bit too conservative at certain key points and thus found himself in a position to be pushed into making a mistake. That's still 5 wins and 2 second places from 7 starts, though. And Webber has once again proved consistent, albeit no match for his teammate.

you can also see that Vettel nearly lost it 3 - 4 times in the last 2 laps. He was absolutely on the limit because he knew that Button would pass him easily on the straight line if he was just 0.5 seconds or so behind. So DRS was way to effective like in Istanbul, I think that's the only reason, why Vettel made that mistake.
What Mika Salo said is just ridiculous, because Vettel can handle the pressure like he had shown in Monaco or Barcelona...

DRS was not as effective as in Instanbul and Vettel made the mistake under pressure from Button. Even if there wasn't DRS he would have to push and risk making a mistake.

A smart tactical move would have been made by Vettel if he had allowed Button to pass him right before the DRS-Detection point on the last lap. It would have been easy for Vettel to repass Button on the straight.

But if there was no DRS Vettel would know that he finishes 1st if he doesn't make a mistake. In Canada he knew that he had to build a gap of about 8 or 9 tenths to have a chance on the straight.Vorull wrote:DRS was not as effective as in Instanbul and Vettel made the mistake under pressure from Button. That's what everyone feared I believe before the beginning of the season.Eric_Cartman wrote:A smart tactical move would have been made by Vettel if he had allowed Button to pass him right before the DRS-Detection point on the last lap. Vettel lost the race because of the huge pressure by Button. But DRS had play a great role for Button on the last two laps. Button made one of the greatest drive I have ever seen in recent years, but DRS helped him to gain 3 - 4 tenth to Vettel only in the Casino straight in the last two laps.
DRS in Canada was a bit too much, just look at Webber on Schumacher. Nearly all the pass, when DRS was enabled, was thanks to the DRS. But I fear now that DRS ( and maybe KERS ) is the only way to pass bar the Pirelli tyres. As the braking distance is too short, drivers can't pass underbraking anymore, except in the low drag circuit or circuit with very low grip.
One question : could Hamilton continue with his damaged car if McLaren didn't told him to retire or the damage was terminal?

DRS is for everyone the same. One time it's in your advantage, one time it isn't.Eric_Cartman wrote:But if there was no DRS Vettel would know that he finishes 1st if he doesn't make a mistake.
