Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
The DRS ban is probably for the best- until they've tested it thoroughly for safety then they shouldn't create an unnecessary risk by allowing it.
Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
Why the hell ban it though? If you think its dangerous to use it, don't use it. Don't go crying to Charlie until you get it banned.
Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
I think DRS is going to be ineffective because the only point where there’s a slight chances of making a move in Monaco is right after the tunnel – and the DRS zone is going to be elsewhere. So there’s only going to be the ‘usual’ amount of overtakings in that area – from which Alonso showcased some last year after he arguably thrown away the WDC in Massenet in hindsight.

Yeah but Rubens spearheaded it, the only b*** he has is on the receiving end of a microphone isn't it.phil1993 wrote:Why the hell ban it though? If you think its dangerous to use it, don't use it. Don't go crying to Charlie until you get it banned.

Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
I see what Cf1 and Phil are saying. I see why it was banned in the tunnel, but, as Phil said, if the driver thinks it's too much of a risk, then the driver won't hit the button in the tunnel.
However, some driver would have certainly used it in the tunnel, which then might have pressured other drivers to use it there as well, even though they were not comfortable with doing so. Therein is the possibility of an incident, especially during qualifying. I tend to think the DRS tunnel ban is for the best, although I personally would have liked to see them try it.

Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
i agree with Ferrariman60, there will always be the temptation to use it in the tunnel even if you are unsure of the result incase especially you are stuck behind a slower car

Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
monaco was alway's going to be a tricky race to have DRS. I can see everyone's point of view about keeping DRS and banning DRS for this race, I think drs would make for good passing but also feel in the tunnel it could cause an accident.
I remember an incident where comming out of the tunnel kimi lost control of the ferrari and took poor gaincarl's force india out of the race. the tunnel is a bad place for accidents.

It was Sutil. And Raikkonen was just trying too hard to pass a car that was going to get penalized anyway.
Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
If Vettel finishes 5th or above, he'll have achieved over half of the points he gained over 19 races last year to become champion - after only 6 events.
Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
The FIA have confirmed drivers will be allowed to use their Drag Reduction System all the way along the start/finish straight during the race at Monaco.
The detection point will be shortly after they exit the Swimming Pool complex, and drivers may activate their rear wings as they exit Anthony Noghes.
This makes for a much shorter DRS zone than was seen at earlier races, and it remains to be seen whether drivers will be able to overtake into the following corner, Sainte Devote.

Alain Prost is the drivers representative in the stewards office this weekend
Re: Grand Prix de Monaco 2011
and when Sato moved over for Giancarlo in the year 2002 at tunnel exit, he lost control and crashed, though it was more like a rookie mistake, but still such things are quite possible
