Any information how long the DRS zone will be? Will it start just after the last corner or somewhere else on the straight?

I'm hoping it will be leading onto the back straight.

i agree and it should be for entire length, not for just a particular distance

The DRS zone will be extended from 600m to 700m after it didn't prove as effective in Albert Park.
In Sepang, however, the drivers will already be at full-throttle as they enter the DRS activation zone - this may well show us the full effect of the system and will give the FIA a real indication of what regulations will need to be put in-place to govern the device.
DRS to be activated in the middle of a straight??, interesting!

Thanks! The main straight is very wide and 920m long. With a 700m DRS zone we should see plenty of overtaking there. The driver ahead will have a difficult time to defend his position in these drag races down to turn 1. :)

It should be the back straight, because then you have chance 1 down into the hairpin, have the cut back and then chance 2 into Turns 1/2.

After the main straight you can take a different line at Turn 1 and re-pass at Turn 2. Moreover you have another chance at Turn 3. A further advantage is that you pass the start/finish line in the DRS zone so you can use KERS twice.
I think they just want to give the fans at the grand mainstand (who paid quite a lot of money for their seats) the best show possible.

plus the main straight is longer.
I think the detection should be before the corner leading to the back straight and activation allowed in the main straight.

Yes. But if you have it activated at the start of the back straight, you can use it into the hairpin. Then you get the cut back on the main straight and then you still have the run to Turn 4. Having it on the backstraight allows 3 opportunities to overtake.

but if it is that way then the car behind who gets overtaken in the back straight might come back and overtake you in the main straight. Then it becomes much like nascar with a lot of pointless overtakes.

it wont necessarily happen, because the overtaken person wont be allowed to use DRS, and im still quite sure that the DRS is not advantageous enough to allow slower cars to overtake quicker cars IMO

In Sepang the DRS zone will be on the pit straight rather than the approach to the final corner, which the FIA believes is already a clear overtaking opportunity.

For the same reasons it is likely to be on the pit straight again in Shanghai, rather than the back straight, which had been mentioned as the likely spot.

The DRS zone for Sepang doesn't surprise me, but the one for China does... ''hmm''
