2012 24 Hours of Le Mans

Post by François » 16 Jun 2012, 18:16

Anybody following the race?

At the moment it is under a yellow flag after an absolutely massive accident involving Davidson's Toyota LMP1 and some visually-impaired backmarker. Both drivers seem to have escaped serious injury.

I'm appalled to see that kind of silly accidents still happening after the very big scares we had last year.

It's the #8 Toyota and the #83 Ferrari. Also means Buemi is out of the race.

Too bad because it seems Toyota is definitely giving Audi a fight. The #7 Toyota might even have taken the lead right before the accident.

It's because Le Mans is turning more into a 24 hour sprint race than a 24 hour endurance race. LMP1 drivers need to understand this a bit more, even if that was not Ant's fault.

Last year's accidents were a bit harder to call. McNish in particular took excessive risks and brought it upon himself in my opinion. But Davidson did absolutely nothing wrong there, except assume the Ferrari driver would've been somewhat experienced.

Nakajima earlier was really stupid. Poor from him. Such a shame the Toyotas got caught up in incidents.
