Melbourne History:

When Formula One came to Australia in 1985 it set up home in Adelaide. However, ex-racer-turned-entrepreneur Bob Jane wanted a race in Melbourne. He created a huge "thunderdome" and invented the AUSCAR series, bringing NASCAR action to Australia.

The desire to have a race in Melbourne did not wane. Despite the popular end of season slot for the Adelaide race, pressure was growing from the Melbourne motor sport community, and in 1992 Jeff Kennett was elected the new premier of the State of Victoria. He immediately set about improving Melbourne's profile. First on his list was the Australian Grand Prix.

An agreement was reached with Formula One in 1993, but the contract with Adelaide did not expire until 1995, so Kennett had plenty of time to prepare. A track was developed in Melbourne's beautiful Albert Park, part of it using closed-off public roads, and in 1996 the city held the first round of the World Championship. Since then, the venue has become the home of Formula One's season opener. The race is very popular with drivers and fans alike, and the party atmosphere of Melbourne keeps them coming back year after year.

So, which couple do you think will be the most interesting to watch?

The McLaren duel with an honorable mention going to the battle between Lewis and Kova
and Raikkonen Vs Massa a close Fight !

I also think that Fisi vs Sutil battle would be worthy to watch.

+1

also Vettel v/s Bourdais(seems to me ..if he don't perform upto mark this year ..its goodbye for him.)
Only worry for Ferrari, gear box to survive for 4 gp's ..although they have test it in Bahrain but ...!

If schumi attends every race that will increase Massa's luck

poor Kimi :p

Kimi isn't going to give Massa half a season's start this year, so the difference between them will be greater, Massa will be quick but Raikkonen will be quicker over the season.
I'd expect Sutil to be quicker but Fisi to bring the car home more often, at least in the first half of the season

I am very eager to see the teams competing for the first time on same grounds, as during testing, they have different conditions and settings. In particular, I'm looking forward to seing cars without any Traction control.

Ferrari will be the team to beat this year, as said in Autosport magazine. They have the biggest knowledge of the Bridgestones on the grid by far, and with the wealth of experience and database information they have on all the other teams, themselves, aero and the tyres they will be difficult to beat.

Ferrari and McLaren will still be the top two, but the midfield fight will be a lot tighter this year as compared to previous years. :nosweat:

Massa did not do so well in Montreal with Schumi there. He was black flagged for leaving the pits on a red light, thus ending up with zero points. This may well have been the down turn for him.

Kimi has skill, which is better than luck!
