Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has described Nico Rosberg as the “real deal” after the German’s contract extension until the end of 2018 was confirmed on Friday
Negotiations between the parties came to a conclusion when it was announcedthat the long-time Mercedes driver will remain part of the set-up for a further two years.
Rosberg has taken all of his 19 race victories and 25 pole positions with Mercedes, and currently leads the 2016 standings, having finished as runner-up to Lewis Hamilton in 2014 and 2015.
"We are very happy," Wolff said. “"It was always clear we wanted to continue. Nico is the real deal for us. Having made the signature is what matters.
"It's great – onwards and upwards.
"Rosberg was also naturally enthused by his contract extension.
“It's a special moment for me, of course, signing that piece of paper," he said.
“I'm very thankful to Toto, Niki [Lauda] and to Dieter [Zetsche] especially, but of course to all the others for the support. I'm just really looking forward to the future.”
