Former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber says that he is enjoying life in the World Endurance Championship - and believes that young drivers are now eyeing a route into sportscars rather than single-seater racing.

Webber raced in Formula 1 between 2002 and 2013 and won nine races for Red Bull, before moving to Porsche in the WEC for 2014.

"Of course yes, it’s [WEC] a lot more enjoyable," he told F1Zone.net when asked to compare the two series.

"The last few years in Formula 1 wasn’t Formula 1; Formula 1 was 1980, 1990s and 2000s, the last few years was not Formula 1.

"Of course, Formula 1 is very big, but some young go kart drivers now in Europe they are thinking of arriving to Le Mans, not just Formula 1, so it’s changing."

Webber also believes that the top drivers in Formula 1 would like to sample sportscars.

"The top guys, the six or eight, are very strong, they’d for sure love to drive these [cars], hopefully they can experience these sexy cars, old school motorsport, how it should be, racing on the limit every lap, endurance - but also a lot of fitness for the drivers," he said.
