Mark Webber has praised the job that his Red Bull successor Daniel Ricciardo is doing so far this season.

Webber, who is part of the Porsche team on provisional pole for this weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours, left Formula 1 at the end of 2013 and was replaced by fellow Australian Ricciardo.

Ricciardo won his maiden Grand Prix in Canada last weekend, becoming only the fourth Australian to win a race in the sport.

"To be honest, I've enjoyed the change in chapter in my career, but I've still watched a few races," Webber told NBCSN.

"I watched the start and it wasn't looking that exciting," he said of the Canadian Grand Prix. "A bit touch and go. But then I saw the Mercedes have problems.

"For Daniel to get his first win was incredible for him. He hasn't put a wheel wrong all year so far. There's been testing regulations, wet qualifyings, and all sorts of stuff that's been thrown at him. But for him to notch up his first win is a big step for him."
