Sebastian Vettel says he is wary of the threat posed by rivals Williams at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.

Vettel qualified in third place for Red Bull, albeit just 0.002s ahead of Valtteri Bottas, with Felipe Massa mere thousandths behind in fifth.

"The start of the last lap wasn’t great," said Vettel.

"I didn’t manage to get first sector right. But after that I tried to take more risks and it worked. All in all a very good result, [the] maximum we could do. Very close. Half a second to Mercedes in front but four cars were within five or six hundredths behind.

"[It's a] long race here, strategy could be a bit of a surprise. Williams [is] very strong, [a] quick car down the straight. Mercedes-powered cars looking forward to straight lines tomorrow."

The reigning world champion admits that he still has work to do with his Red Bull RB10.

"I think you always try to work on yourself, look at the record so far I didn’t have the smoothest races, so to have a smooth Friday and Saturday is good," he said.

"[I'm] always confident when I step in the car that it’s good enough to make it, so in terms of fighting with the car still not where I want to be, behaving in the way I prefer but we still try to get the maximum from the car."
