Sebastian Vettel has taken pole position for the United States Grand Prix.

Vettel eclipsed Lewis Hamilton by one tenth of a second, ahead of Mark Webber.

Romain Grosjean took fourth but will drop to ninth after a gearbox change.

Kimi Raikkonen will therefore start from fourth place, ahead of Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa and Nico Hulkenberg.

Fernando Alonso will start only eighth.

Jenson Button failed to make it through to Q3 after a throttle problem in Q2 left him unable to complete the session. Future McLaren team mate Sergio Perez also failed to make Q3 and he starts from fifteenth place.

At the back, Marussia managed to beat both Caterhams and HRTs for the first time, with Glock ahead of Pic, Petrov, Kovalainen, de La Rosa and Karthikeyan, who stopped on circuit with a couple of minutes remaining.
