Sebastian Vettel says he has not yet given up hope of winning a Formula 1 race in 2014, despite having claimed just two podium finishes this year.

Vettel, who claimed 13 wins on his way to a fourth title in 2013, has endured a troublesome campaign and could mathematically be ruled out of contention for the 2014 title in Singapore this weekend.

But Vettel, who has won the last three races around Marina Bay, remains optimistic that he can win a race before the end of the current season.

"Well I would prefer to win, we still have some races to go and I'm here to win," Vettel is quoted by ESPNF1.

"I don't like being beaten but this year I've been beaten many times, but that's part of sport, part of life."

Vettel has been put in the shade by Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo in 2014, with the Australian having claimed victory on the three occasions when Mercedes has faltered.

Vettel insists that he has learned a lot from the current campaign, despite his lack of success.

"There's always something you can learn from winning, but you can always learn something from being beaten or losing," he said.

"In that regard we've learned already a lot, it's been a tough year already but the confidence is high and there's confidence we will win again."
