Sebastian Vettel says he is pleased with the way he was able to control the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Vettel started from second place but slipped to third behind Fernando Alonso.
The reigning world champion was able to muscle his way back through Alonso at Turn 4 and soon dispatched with compatriot Nico Rosberg to head into the lead.
“It was a fantastic race,” said Vettel.
“A big thank you to the team. It was faultless from start to finish. I knew it was crucial to get into the lead and go from there, looking after the tyres. The car was phenomenal; it just got better and better. It was a beautiful race where you could push every lap.”
Vettel admitted that his early passes were crucial in cultivating the path for victory.
“It was very tight at the first corner with Fernando on the outside. Unfortunately I had to give way, but I got him back at Turn 6 and that was crucial. Nico was a tough one and I had to think for quite a while as he was quick down the straights. It wasn’t as straight forward as I had hoped, but we managed to get him at Turn 4. Then the track was clear and we could unleash the true pace of the car.”
“I think it was pretty dominant today, which was certainly not the expectation,” he added.
