Sebastian Vettel described his first test with Ferrari as a 'fairytale' after he spent the weekend at the squad's Fiorano test track.

Vettel completed laps in a Ferrari F2012 - permitted under Formula 1's testing regulations - and spent the weekend with his new team after his move from Red Bull.

Vettel said that his time at Fiorano reminded him of when he was a fan trying to catch a glimpse of Michael Schumacher in the late 1990s.

"It has been fantastic to come here," he said. "I remember being here a long, long time ago as a child trying to look over the fence so to be here officially as part of the team felt fantastic, to drive the car, get to know the team, it was a unique experience."

"It was a very different colour for me," he said, referencing his Ferrari team kit. "Everything is red, it's something special and I'm very much looking forward to the challenge I’ve taken on for the next years."

While Vettel's test in the 2012 car will not have aided the team's development path for 2015, it will have gained him an understanding of how the squad operates.

"Obviously it's already winter time so it was quite cold doing some laps [but it] was a great feeling, always enjoyable to be in the car, it reminded me of being 11 or 12 years old and trying to see Michael on the track," he said.

"There are a lot of fairy-tales about Ferrari and how it feels to drive a red car and in the end I can only confirm all these fairy-tales. It’s not only a story it’s a legend that exists and feels really special to become part of that, to be in the car, to see people trying to climb the walls and see the cars, something happened today that I will never forget."
