Sebastian Vettel says that power problems with his Ferrari prevented him from progressing through to Q2 at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Vettel spent much of Q1 in the garage as Ferrari tried to repair an apparent MGU-H problem on his SF15-T, before sending him out on track for the final few minutes.
Vettel was only able to post the 16th fastest time, though will start 15th as a result of Max Verstappen's penalty.
"I couldn’t get full power and we were losing a lot on the straights," Vettel said.
"It’s a shame. We tried to go to Q2 to maybe buy some time but that didn’t work. In the end it didn’t make a difference.
"Hopefully we can fix it for tomorrow."
Vettel is nonetheless optimistic over his chances of gaining positions in Sunday's race.
"We’ll see – it depends what the others are doing. We have a quick car, so we should be able to make up a lot of ground."
