Red Bull gave a first hint of the potential of the RB7 by running some short stints, enabling Sebastian Vettel to top the timesheets.

Vettel's best time was set late morning as most teams switched to race simulations in the afternoon.

New faces in the test today were Vitantonio Liuzzi as he bids for the HRT seat and Angolan Ricardo Teixeira drove an hour for Lotus as he bids for a test drive.

HRT will test Swiss driver Giorgio Mondini tomorrow afternoon
