Sebastian Vettel says that Ferrari's pre-season pace counts for little, despite rivals continuing to talk up the Italian squad's chances.

Both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton hinted this week that Ferrari has made progress, while Daniel Ricciardo said on Thursday that he was surprised by Kimi Raikkonen's pace.

But Vettel downplayed Ferrari's form after he ended the third day of testing in fifth position.

"I would rather wait and see, it depends much more where you are at the races, I don’t recall – well Mercedes was strongest last year at the test – but if I ask you two years ago who had the strongest impression in testing it might be very different at the first race," he said.

"As I said it is impossible to read but this year there are fuel loads, engine updates, we don’t know what people will bring [to Australia], or introduce at the second, third, fourth [races], everyone has their own plans but it’s difficult to know."
