Max Verstappen says that Toro Rosso's major upgrade package won't be arriving until the Austrian Grand Prix, but remains confident that the Italian squad can still compete for points.

Verstappen scored points in Malaysia but retired from races in Australia, China and Bahrain due to mechanical glitches.

With this weekend's event in Spain a traditional time for Formula 1 teams to introduce major upgrade packages, Verstappen says that Toro Rosso is holding off until next month's race at the Red Bull Ring.

"It is little things, hopefully a few tenths would be nice," he said of Toro Rosso's updates this weekend. "We will have to wait and see.

"It is not our biggest update; that is coming for the upcoming races. I think still the car we have is very strong [in] high-speed anyway so I don’t see a problem why we can’t fight for points.

"I think more around Austria - I think that is where we have a bigger gain."

Verstappen is also hopeful that Renault has fixed the issues which have affected him so far in 2015.

"Hopefully we can finish the race," he said. "They are working very hard on it and we try to help them wherever possible.

"I am confident that they have made good steps for this Grand Prix."
