McLaren protege Stoffel Vandoorne will participate in his first Formula 1 test in Bahrain next week.

Vandoorne will drive the MP4-29 during the post-race test which takes place at the track following the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend.

22-year-old Vandoorne will act as McLaren's reserve driver for most of this season and he will also race for ART in GP2 in 2014.

Vandoorne was runner-up to Kevin Magnussen in last year's Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier says that Vandoorne has 'natural ability'.

"I always say to young drivers, ‘Don’t try to run before you can walk.’ So all I’ll say now is that Stoffel has all the natural ability and personality traits required, and, if he gets the breaks as well, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t go all the way," he said.
