Kubica to contest second-tier WRC in 2013

Robert Kubica will contest the second-tier WRC2 world rally championship at the wheel of a Citroen in 2013. The former Renault and BMW driver has been out of Formula One and full-time motor sport since a near-fatal rallying crash just before the 2011 season. The news follows the 28-year-old's recent test in a Mercedes DTM car, raising speculation he might contest the premier German touring car series this year. "I weighed up the different options before deciding on this programme," said Kubica after Citroen announced […]

Vettel and Schumacher win RoC Nations Cup

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel and seven times world champion Michael Schumacher have won the Race of Champions Nations Cup for the sixth successive season. The F1 champions teamed up yet again to stretch their unbeaten record in the competition, a trophy they first won back in 2007 during Schumacher's first retirement and when Vettel was starting his F1 career with Toro Rosso. Schumacher and Vettel competed in a variety of machinery to make the final at Thailand's Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The German duo […]

Red Bull to take over world rally series

Red Bull, the owner of two Formula One teams, is poised to take over the running of the FIA's World Rally Championship (WRC). The premier rallying series was thrown into turmoil early this year when the governing body terminated its contract with WRC promoter North One Sport. Convers Sports Initiatives, a conglomerate headed by Russian businessman Vladimir Antonov, stepped in, but the Times newspaper says that company subsequently collapsed, with Antonov suspected of fraud. Journalist Kevin Eason said the FIA has struggled to find a […]

Raikkonen asks Lotus for rally Finland permission

Kimi Raikkonen has revealed he would like to contest August's rally of Finland. F1's 2007 world champion returned from world rallying to grand prix racing this year. "Of course I wanted to do better. But I'm not finished. I want to go back, whether for my career or after I don't know," the 32-year-old told Motorsport News, according to the official WRC website. Earlier, Raikkonen admitted he had sidelined his rallying career for now in order to concentrate on F1. Before the 2011 season, Lotus' […]

Loeb wins in Mexico

Sebastien Loeb has won his second rally of the season in Mexico. Eight times world champion Loeb took the lead of the event on Friday and was never headed, eventually finishing 42 seconds clear of team mate Mikko Hirvonen to secure a Citroen 1-2. Petter Solberg completed the podium although he managed to pip Loeb in Sunday's power stage. It was a less-than-satisfactory weekend for the Ford team as Jari-Matti Latvala lost time after a spate of punctures and was eventually forced to retire after rolling on […]

Loeb continues to dominate in Monte Carlo

Sebastien Loeb's domination of the opening round of the WRC season in Monte Carlo continued on day two of the rally. Loeb now leads by 97 seconds after winning all but one of today's stages. The only stage not won by the world champion was SS8, when Dani Sordo trumped his former team mate by 0.2s. The most exciting battle is for second place, between Mini's Dani Sordo and Ford's Petter Solberg, as the duo continue to swap places on a regular basis. Dry conditions […]

How Kimi spent his time away from F1 – Part 3

Kimi Raikkonen enjoys driving anything that moves fast. This has been a known fact for some time now. The stories about boat competitions in gorilla suits and snowmobile races under the pseudonym ‘James Hunt’ made big headlines during his first stint in Formula 1. The two-year long sabbatical from the rigid world of F1 allowed him to try out whatever he felt like trying, with the small difference that now, he entered events under his own name. In addition to his participation in the World […]
