Singapore proved to be a frustrating race for Caterham as the team was overtaken by Marussia in the Constructors Championship. Heikki Kovalainen could manage only fifteenth, with Vitaly Petrov four place in arrears. "For me that was a good race until the safety cars. We decided to stay out but when we restarted for the second time I’d probably been out too long and the tyres were starting to give up. I had to stop again and there wasn’t enough time to recover from there […]
Vitaly Petrov thanked his mechanics for fixing his car in time for qualifying. The Caterham racer hit the wall in the closing stages of third practice, leaving the team with work to do in a short spell. "I’m really happy with how quali went today. It’s my Father’s birthday and the performance is my present for him", said the Russian, who beat team mate Heikki Kovalainen. "He told me this morning “don’t push too hard” and then I went and crashed the car in P3! […]
Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap time ahead of qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. The German set two times good enough for first position and was comfortably faster than Lewis Hamilton. The session featured a couple of lurid moments. Sergio Perez clattered the barrier on the exit of Turn 18, as did Mark Webber later on in the session. The Australian returned to the pits with a punctured right rear tyre. Timo Glock suffered from a stuck throttle midway through the session. Fortunately the […]
Charles Pic's management is reportedly shopping around for a better car for the French rookie. Pic, 22, has had a solid Formula One debut this season alongside the experienced Timo Glock, but their 2012 Marussia single seater is among the very slowest in the field. Pic made his debut this year with the substantial backing of the family business Groupe Charles Andre, a leading European transport company. "There is the technical help from McLaren," he is quoted by Le Dauphine Libere, "but it takes time […]
In contrast to the wet conditions that characterised Friday free practice at the last grand prix in Belgium, there were ambient temperatures of 28 degrees centigrade and track temperatures of 40 degrees centigrade as the cars took to the track for the first time in Monza. This worked the P Zero Silver hard and P Zero White medium tyres particularly hard on the fastest circuit of the year, where the maximum speed reached was 347kph last year. The stable conditions allowed all the drivers to […]
Heikki Kovalainen may have had a spin in FP2 but admitted it was frustrating to be cooped up inside the garage after such a long summer break. "It’s obviously good to be back to racing but a shame it had to start with weather like this", the Finn said. "Spa’s notorious for its weather but I can’t remember seeing it rain this hard for a long time so after today there’s really not a lot to say after most of Friday was washed out. It […]
Ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, F1Zone.net sat down with Vitaly Petrov to discuss his season and what the future holds for the Caterham driver. F1Zone.net: You finished 9th here in 2010 and 2011. What are your hopes for this year? Vitaly Petrov: Now it’s difficult to predict where we can finish. But anyway my target is to try to do all the best for the team, again without mistake or any problems. Today unfortunately I cannot expect where we can finish or qualify. […]
Vitaly Petrov's manager has warned she will find another pursuit for the Russian driver if they cannot make money in Formula One. Since 2010, when the now 27-year-old made his debut for Renault (now Lotus) before switching to Caterham this season, Petrov has funded his race seats through private backing and sponsorship. But his manager Oksana Kosachenko warned that they may change direction for 2013. "If the presence of a Russian driver in Formula One will be interesting to no one else but Vitaly Petrov […]
Nico Rosberg and Giedo van der Garde will be demonstrating their F1 cars in the city centre of Rotterdam this Sunday. City Racing is the biggest Formula 1 event in Holland which allows Dutch fans to get up close to F1 cars and experience the most popular form of motor racing in the world. Both Nico Rosberg and the Mercedes AMG Petronas team attend this event for the second time. The only Dutch driver in F1 at the moment, Giedo van der Garde, will be taking […]
Vitaly Petrov says it is too soon to determine what he will be doing in 2013. The Russian made his debut for Renault (now Lotus) in 2010, moving across to the back-of-the-grid Caterham team at the beginning of this season. And his manager Oksana Kosachenko said recently she is in talks with three teams about 2013. "Before autumn we have to be ready to take some decisions. I don't want to be in the situation which we faced last year," she said. Kosachenko said the […]
Marussia driver didn’t score any point at the Hungarian Grand Prix yesterday but he definitely did a great job on track which haven’t gone unnoticed. Finishing on 20th position might not say much about his performance but if we only look at the overall picture the French rookie was at his best race so far. Despite having a poor start Pic managed to recover quick and soon to close the gap to Caterham, enjoying a close battle with Vitaly Petrov for the whole race almost: […]
Vitaly Petrov's manager has revealed she is in talks with three teams about the 2013 season. After Renault (now Lotus) dropped him at the end of last season, Russian Petrov moved to the back of the grid for 2012 with Caterham. But the 27-year-old's manager Oksana Kosachenko has now hinted Petrov could lose his seat yet again once the current championship is over. "I would like something in my hands, something we can put on the table when we don't have any proper offer from […]
