Mallya wants Silverstone podium

Q&A conducted by the Official F1 Website Q: Vijay, both Force India drivers finished in the points in Valencia. Why did the team prove so successful last weekend? Vijay Mallya: Well, the car was performing great all weekend long. In fact I was hoping for a better qualifying result, but in Q3 maybe both overdrove the car, locked up the wheels etc. So we started eighth and tenth while I was actually hoping to start in the top five. We knew that this season’s unpredictability has […]

Fingers point at Pirelli after 'odd' qualifying

Luca di Montezemolo pointed his finger at Pirelli on Saturday as he slammed an "odd" qualifying session at Valencia. A surprise and rare visitor in the Ferrari garage, team president Montezemolo was bitterly disappointed after neither F2012 made the Q3 cut. "We were fastest and then everything changed when we put on the soft tyres," he told Italian broadcaster Rai. "We need to take care that this does not become a tyre manufacturing championship," Montezemolo warned. Fernando Alonso, however, insisted that the main problem in […]

Force India wants to keep di Resta in 2013

Vijay Mallya on Thursday admitted he would like to keep the same driver lineup for his Force India team in 2013. There has been speculation that Paul di Resta has caught the eye of top teams including Ferrari and Mercedes. "Paul is a huge asset and a very valuable asset to us," insisted the team's Indian boss and co-owner Mallya, who in 2012 has paired Scot di Resta, 26, with Germany's Nico Hulkenberg. "We have secure contracts with both him and Nico and we have […]

Hulkenberg: 2011 was a wasted year

Nico Hulkenberg was dropped by Williams at the end of the 2010 season for Pastor Maldonado because the Venezuelan driver brought substantial sponsorship from companies in his home country to the cash-strapped team. Hulkenberg then moved to Force India as a reserve driver in 2011, driving for the team during Friday practice sessions. “It was a wasted year. I should have been racing and not watching," said Hulkenberg to Autosport magazine, referring to the year he spent on the sidelines as a Force India reserve […]

Vijay Mallya could depart Force India

There may be changes afoot behind the scenes at Force India, according to a veteran F1 newspaper correspondent. Roger Benoit, who has written for Switzerland's Blick for decades, has this week reported new "speculation" about the Silverstone based team. "Is (team boss and owner) Dr Vijay Mallya in real financial trouble?" he wrote. "Will the new co-owner, the Sahara Group, soon take over the whole team?" Benoit's report follows news the bank accounts of Mallya's debt-ridden airline Kingfisher have been frozen due to tax payment […]

Sutil admits eye on second Williams seat

Adrian Sutil has a firm eye on Williams as Formula one's driver lineup for 2012 takes more shape. On Friday, one of the German's potential options for next year - the vacant Lotus seat alongside Kimi Raikkonen - was filled by new GP2 champion Romain Grosjean. Sutil is expected to lose his Force India seat to Nico Hulkenberg, so the team veteran is now hoping for a switch to Williams. "Yes, certainly there has been talks with several teams for quite some time, but nothing […]

Hulkenberg hopes for race seat news in two weeks

Nico Hulkenberg's return to a race seat in 2012 is a done deal, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper. The report said Force India has already signed its current reserve and Friday driver to replace race regular Adrian Sutil, even though an announcement is not due yet. "If you remember, he (boss Vijay Mallya) said December 15 and that would be consistent with what he's always projected," deputy team chief Robert Fernley said on Friday. 24-year-old Hulkenberg also hinted that while the announcement might not […]

Force India to decide 2012 lineup before Brazil

Nico Hulkenberg on Thursday confirmed rumours his Force India colleagues have been asked to wait longer on the team's decision about 2012. Boss Vijay Mallya hinted this week that, despite scheduling an earlier Abu Dhabi decision about next year's lineup, he is yet to decide which driver out of Hulkenberg, Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta will be left in the cold. Speculation remains rife, however, that Scot di Resta will be paired alongside German Hulkenberg. "We don't know," Hulkenberg, 24, is quoted by the […]

Market waits for last pieces in 2012 driver puzzle

Force India's drivers might have to wait a little longer to learn their fate. Despite earlier scheduling a mid December announcement, boss Vijay Mallya has been pushed by Adrian Sutil to make an earlier call about the team's 2012 driver lineup amid reports the German will be left out in the cold. Reportedly in the hot seats for next season are Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg, but the pair insisted in India recently that they are not sure if they will be on the […]
