Williams plays down lowly Friday positions

Williams drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa played down their comparative lack of pace during Friday's practice sessions for the Belgian Grand Prix. Bottas ended the day in 14th position in the FW37, two places ahead of Massa, while Bottas only marginally crept into the top 10 during the opening session on Friday morning. "Today our main focus was on aero testing, including the rear wing configuration and we also looked at the tyres as you would expect from a Friday," said Bottas, who finished […]

Bottas: Situation easier after Raikkonen deal

Valtteri Bottas says the situation for him and Williams will be 'easier' following Ferrari's confirmation that Kimi Raikkonen will be retained for the 2016 season. Bottas was heavily linked with Raikkonen's seat at Ferrari but the Italian squad ultimately opted to extend the elder Finn's contract for a further year. Bottas is now expected to remain with Williams into 2016, though a deal has not yet been reached, and expects matters to be more straightforward without speculation. "I think it’s now easier for me, for […]

Bottas disappointed with 'unlucky' race

Valtteri Bottas says it was disappointing for Williams to leave the Hungarian Grand Prix without scoring points, but conceded that it was better than losing out at one of its strongest circuits. Williams was braced for a challenging weekend due to the layout of the Hungaroring but Bottas was in contention for a healthy haul of points until he was clipped by Max Verstappen at Turn 5. The minor contact left Bottas with a puncture and he dropped out of the points, eventually coming home […]

Massa confident of Williams contract extension

Felipe Massa is confident that he will extend his stay with Williams into a third year in 2016. Massa spent the majority of his Formula 1 career at Ferrari before switching to Williams at the start of 2014. Massa's arrival coincided with Williams' revival towards the front of the grid and the Brazilian driver has claimed four podiums and a pole position during his time with the team. "Nothing’s changed at the moment, I don’t see why I should not be there," Massa explained ahead […]

Bottas disappointed by call not to race Massa

Valtteri Bottas says he was disappointed not to be allowed to race team-mate Felipe Massa during the early stages of the British Grand Prix. Massa took the lead at the start while Bottas moved into second place at the expense of Lewis Hamilton when the Briton unsuccessfully tried to pass Massa at the restart. Bottas subsequently trailed Massa by half a second per lap but was informed by Williams not to overtake his team-mate, despite believing that he held a pace advantage. Williams eventually gave […]

Bottas sure of top five challenge

Valtteri Bottas is confident that Williams will be able to qualify within the top five places, despite a comparatively low key performance during practice for the British Grand Prix. Bottas was only 12th quickest during the second practice session at Silverstone, having given up his seat in the first session to test driver Susie Wolff. "Obviously missing the first practice it always takes a bit of time in practice two, so it felt like practice one for me getting used to the conditions but it […]

Williams encouraged by long run pace

Williams drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa say they have been encouraged by the long run pace of the FW37 during practice for this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix. Williams had several new upgrades to its car during Friday practice and the squad focused on long runs, with Bottas and Massa not troubling the overall top 10 times across the course of the second session. "Our main aim today was to put the new parts we have through their paces and they all seem to be […]

Bottas: Podium acts as motivation

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas says his podium at the Canadian Grand Prix acts as motivation as the squad bids to replicate its 2014 showing at this weekend's round in Austria. Bottas claimed third in Canada and is optimistic that Williams can again perform strongly at the Red Bull Ring, having locked out the front row of the grid in 2014 before going on to take third and fourth in the race, as Bottas secured his maiden Formula 1 podium. "We had a strong weekend here […]

Wolff to get Williams outing in Austria

Williams has confirmed that Susie Wolff will participate in next week's post-race test for the squad at the Red Bull Ring. Wolff, Williams' test driver, sampled the FW37 during pre-season testing in Spain and again at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in last month's first practice session. Wolff will drive the car on Tuesday, before handing over duties to Valtteri Bottas on Wednesday.

Bottas: Williams boosted by podium result

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas says that he hopes his podium position at the Canadian Grand Prix will act as a springboard for the squad to enjoy a strong spell of results. Bottas took his first podium in Formula 1 in Austria last year and consequently followed it up with further top three finishes across the mid-season stint. Bottas took advantage of an error by Kimi Raikkonen in Canada to collect Williams' first top three finish of 2015 and reckons the result will boost the team. […]

Williams expecting return to form

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas says that the squad is expecting a return to form in Canada this weekend after it suffered a dip in performance in Monaco. Neither Bottas nor team-mate Felipe Massa managed to collect a top 10 result in Monaco but the Finn posted the sixth fastest time during practice at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve prior to torrential rain. "The rain compromised FP2 for everyone but we knew it was coming so we were able to do a little bit of work at […]

Bottas sure Williams will bounce back

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas is adamant that the squad will bounce back after its poorest showing since Formula 1 moved to V6 power units at the start of 2014. Bottas claimed only 14th place in Monaco, ahead of team-mate Felipe Massa, as neither Williams driver scored points for the first time since the end of 2013. But the Finn is confident that Williams, which still occupies third in the Constructors' championship, will return to its usual position for the upcoming races. "After a weekend like […]
