Bottas registered 98 laps at the second in-season test, which took place after the British Grand Prix, and recorded the sixth quickest time. Williams has endured a difficult string of races, racking up only 11 points from visits to Baku, Austria and Britain, leaving the team under pressure from Force India in the battle for fourth in the Constructors' Championship. Massa left to rue struggle with tyres

Felipe Massa was left to rue tyre struggles as he was eliminated from the second stage of qualifying for the British Grand Prix. Massa will line-up from 12th place on the grid and was puzzled by his failure to get Pirelli's tyres into the correct operating window. "It definitely wasn’t a good qualifying for me today, because it was hard to make the rear tyres work in a way that wouldn’t lose performance throughout my lap," he rued. "Unfortunately, I couldn’t put my lap together […]

Williams duo encouraged by wet running

Williams duo Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa were encouraged by the mileage they were able to rack up during wet/dry conditions at the Austrian Grand Prix on Friday. Williams has traditionally struggled in wet conditions since the start of the V6 era but has typically been strong at the Red Bull Ring, finishing on the podium in both 2014 and 2015. Heavy rain fell during the second practice and both Bottas and Massa were able to pilot the FW38 in the tricky conditions, winding up […]

Bottas hopes for Williams podium fight

Valtteri Bottas is hopeful that Williams will be able to compete for the podium at the Austrian Grand Prix, a circuit where it has traditionally been strong. Bottas finished on the podium in 2014, after he and polesitter Felipe Massa locked out the front row of the grid for Williams. Massa maintained Williams' strong performance at the circuit by placing third in 2015 and Bottas, who collected Williams' only podium of 2016 in Canada, is eyeing a repeat. "It’s always really tricky but I think […]

Massa rues 'terrible race' after tyre struggles

Felipe Massa labelled his European Grand Prix as "terrible" after struggling with the tyres at the Baku City Circuit. Massa started from fifth place on the grid but slipped back to the foot of the top 10, having stopped twice, compared to the one-stop approach favoured by most of his rivals. Massa finished in 10th place, picking up a solitary championship point in the process. "It was a really terrible race for me, one to forget," he said. "I struggled massively with the tyres. I […]

Williams podium a 'big boost' - Bottas

Valtteri Bottas says that his first podium of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix will act as a "big boost" for Williams as he placed third. Bottas started from seventh position at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but was able to run a one-stop strategy to move into third, as his rivals stopped twice. Bottas thus finished the race in third place, securing another podium result in China, as he matched his achievement of 2015. "Montréal has been pretty good to me, really happy about […]

Massa admits Williams lacks grip, traction

Felipe Massa has conceded that Williams has big strides to make after a low-key pair of practice sessions for this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. Massa sat out most of the first session after crashing at Sainte Devote early into running, and was able to set only the 16th best time when he returned to action in the afternoon. Williams has struggled for pace in Monaco across the past few years and Massa accepted that the FW38 lacks grip and traction. "It was a difficult morning, […]

Bottas searching for first Monaco points

Valtteri Bottas says he is hoping to score points in Monaco for the first time in his Formula 1 career at the fourth attempt this weekend. Bottas was 12th in an uncompetitive Williams in 2013 before retiring with engine woe in 2014. Last year the Finn struggled to a lowly 14th as the outfit lacked pace in the Principality. Monaco is the only venue where Bottas has yet to collect a point, a statistic he hopes to amend this weekend. "Monaco is a unique grand […]
