Thursday at Silverstone

Sunny skies and warm conditions greeted the paddock on Thursday afternoon, but most of the talk was about the much anticipated rain due to fall on Friday. Silverstone is set to impliment an emergency parking system should Friday turn into a washout. A few of the drivers were quizzed about the inclement weather conditions, although Kimi Raikkonen looked at the sky, noted the sun, shrugged and simply said ‘if it’s wet it’s wet’. Jenson Button was asked about his woeful Silverstone record, and hoped that […]

Felipe Massa is now almost back to his best form, the Brazilian's race engineer Rob Smedley insists. 31-year-old Massa's form was so low earlier this season that some seasoned pundits were predicting Ferrari would have to oust him long before his contract expires at the end of the year. But, for the first time in 2012, Massa was back in the decisive 'Q3' qualifying segment in Monaco and Canada, and then last time out in Valencia Ferrari hailed his strong performance despite a tumultuous race. Williams: Silverstone will suit us

The Williams FW34 should be ideally suited to Silverstone in this weekend's British Grand Prix. That is the view of Pastor Maldonado, Bruno Senna and Mark Gillan, Williams's chief operations engineer. Maldonado, winner in Spain, said "I think the track will suit our car because it’s similar to Barcelona and it’s also very fun to drive with sections like Maggots and Becketts which really test you as a driver." 'Serious differences' in tyre quality in 2012 says Marko

Dr Helmut Marko suspects there are "serious differences" in the quality of the sets of tyres being supplied this year by Pirelli. Red Bull's motor racing consultant also said the sole tyre supplier's 2012 product works only within a ludicrously small performance 'window', and favours cars with simple designs. According to the German language motorline.cc, Marko said Italian marque Pirelli "received an order to make Formula One more exciting". In 2011, for Pirelli's first season on the grid, the tyres spiced up the show due […]
