Alonso driving at '120%'

Fernando Alonso believes that he is pushing 120% as he bids to stop Sebastian Vettel from winning a third title. Vettel won the Indian Grand Prix but Alonso limited the damage by finishing in second. "We can fight the Red Bulls, but at the moment, we still don’t have a car capable of winning. Once again this year we have seen that, in the race, the situation is much better than in qualifying", he said. "A great start, a great first lap, a good top […]

Vettel: Dumping Magneti Marelli should be an option

Sebastian Vettel agrees that dumping Red Bull's alternator supplier should be an option. As the team's engine partner Renault grapples to solve the failing alternator problem with its supplier Magneti Marelli, team boss Dietrich Mateschitz revealed last week that Red Bull is pushing the option of simply reverting to a new supplier. After German Vettel broke down with the same problem in Valencia and again recently at Monza, Renault has had to admit that it is yet to get to the bottom of why the […]

Mateschitz wants Renault to dump alternator supplier

Red Bull wants Renault to dump its alternator supplier. The reigning champions have been dogged by a recurring reliability problem in 2012, which cost Sebastian Vettel victory at Valencia and crucial points at Monza. The faulty component, which has also failed in other Renault-powered cars this year including the Lotus and the Pirelli test car, is the alternator supplied by Italian company Magneti Marelli. "I want Renault to separate from its supplier Magneti Marelli and use someone else," Red Bull team boss Dietrich Mateschitz is […]

Worried Red Bull hope for Singapore sling

A worried Red Bull is travelling to Singapore this week, hoping a spate of alternator problems do not return under the Asian city-state's floodlights. Sebastian Vettel and Lotus' similarly Renault-powered Romain Grosjean were halted at Valencia earlier this year, and the problem returned on Vettel's Red Bull at Monza. Then it emerged that the Pirelli test car, fitted with a 2010 specification of the Renault alternator, struck similar problems recently, while Grosjean substitute Jerome d'Ambrosio's Lotus almost failed at Monza. "We do not need to […]

Raikkonen: Third in the championship is good, but second is just one point away

On what was one of the team’s most difficult weekends in terms of pace, Kimi Räikkönen’s strong run to fifth place in Monza moved the Flying Finn into third position in the Drivers’ Championship, just one point off second spot. More to come? We asked the man himself… Are you looking forward to the Singapore Grand Prix? I really like going to Singapore. It’s a great place to be, I love the local food and I don’t mind the unusual times we run in the […]

'Stealthy' Raikkonen keeps title tilt at full speed

Stefano Domenicali has identified former Ferrari champion Kimi Raikkonen as a real threat for the 2012 title. It is Ferrari's new number 1, Fernando Alonso, who is comfortably leading the drivers' standings by 37 points after Monza. The Spaniard has been on the podium 7 times this year so far, including 3 wins. But, despite no wins at the wheel of his black and gold Lotus, Finn Raikkonen has had 6 podiums in the same period, and is now third in the standings behind Alonso […]

Renault apologises to Red Bull

Renault Sport has apologised to Red Bull Racing after an alternator failure cost Sebastian Vettel eight points in the Italian Grand Prix. In one of their worst performances of the season, a Renault powered car failed to finish higher than fifth place - courtesy of the Lotus of Kimi Raikkonen - while he was joined in the top ten only by the Williams of Bruno Senna. Rémi Taffin, Renault Sport F1 head of track operations, admitted that their performance was sub-standard. "This weekend has not […]

Another alternator problem hurts Vettel

Christian Horner has confirmed that yet another alternator failure caused Sebastian Vettel to retire from Sunday's Italian grand prix. Having lost his charge for victory in Valencia earlier this year with the same problem, the issue resurfaced at Monza on Saturday when the reigning world champion broke down in practice. It struck again on Sunday; a big blow to the German's championship hopes. "It has to be corrected quickly," team boss Horner told the German broadcaster Sky. After the practice problem, alternator supplier Renault apologised […]

F1 legends say 2012 is best ever season

The current season is the best season ever in the history of Formula One. That is the view of triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, in a piece published in the September edition of F1 Racing.  "I think 2012 is the best F1 season I've ever seen - I can't remember one better" "The racing is sensational" Sir Jackie said that part of the reason was because of the competitive nature of the 2012 field. "It's not just McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull - you've had […]
