Wolff: Mercedes out to increase advantage

Toto Wolff has warned Mercedes's rivals that the championship leaders are out to increase their advantage at next weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. Mercedes has claimed every pole position and victory in 2014, with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg completing three successive 1-2 results, as well as having led every racing lap. But Wolff insists that Mercedes is aiming to improve their current situation. "We are now four races into the 2014 season and hold a strong position in both Championships," said Wolff. Mercedes may implement team orders in 2014

Mercedes say they may implement team orders later in the season, despite opting not to use them so far in 2014. Mercedes allowed Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to scrap it out for victory in Bahrain and the team's dominance this year has resulted in them securing every pole position and win in 2014. Nico Rosberg won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix to take an early lead in the drivers' championship but team-mate Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire after a cylinder on his Mercedes W05 failed. Wolff insists that Mercedes must ensure that reliability improves if they are to win the world title. "The first race in Australia left us with […]

Mercedes head of Motorsport Toto Wolff says that people will be surprised when the new Formula 1 season gets underway in Australia next weekend. Prior to pre-season testing, concerns were expressed in some quarters that the sport would lose its allure due to the introduction of 1.6 litre power units. But Wolff insists that people will be pleasantly surprised by the new regulations. "The new regulations have been a massive challenge for everybody involved, and the team has been pushing flat out to get the […]

Wolff tips Red Bull to bounce back

With Mercedes already cast as the early title favourite, boss Toto Wolff is tipping reigning champions Red Bull to bounce back from an early crisis. Red Bull and engine partner Renault struggled simply to run the title-defending new RB10 at Jerez, causing Bernie Ecclestone to single out Mercedes as the new 2014 favourite. "Anything can happen under the new regulations," the F1 chief executive told the Indo-Asian News Service this week. "So I would not want to comment much on what could happen this season. […]
