Force India unveils the VJM06 at Silverstone

Sahara Force India unveiled its 2013 challenger today as Paul Di Resta pulled the covers off the VJM06 at Silverstone circuit. The VJM06 is the third car to be overseen by Technical Director, Andrew Green, and builds on the strengths of the 2012 car. With stable technical rules the car is more evolution than revolution with the removal of the ‘step’ nose being the most obvious visual change. “The VJM06 doesn’t look massively different to its predecessor, but beneath the skin we’ve looked at every […]

McLaren tested higher nose at Mugello

McLaren tested a higher front nose at the Mugello test last week. But because the action at Silverstone is the team's 'filming and promotional' pre-season running, rather than an official test, it was allowed by the governing body and rival teams. Designed by former Renault man Pat Symonds, the MR01 - fitted on Monday with demonstration Pirelli tyres - does not feature a 'step nose', uniquely in common with technical partner McLaren's 2012 solution. "It has been […]

FIA to correct nose step rules flaw for 2013

Formula One looks set to prevent the cars of 2013 from being as 'ugly' as this season's field. Pirelli chief Paul Hembery recently called the 2012 generation, mainly featuring an awkward 'step' between the front of the monocoque and the nose, as "pig ugly". The odd look is the result of a compromise reached after the FIA decided to lower the tip of the nose in the name of safety. It emerges that it was Red Bull - whose Adrian Newey pioneered the high chassis […]
