Caterham drivers disappointed after back row lockout

Qualifying may have been postponed until Sunday morning but there was sufficient light and dryness to run Q1. That meant that six drivers are already out and two of them are the Caterham racers of Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic. Both drivers went off the road during Q1 and required a front wing change. "Sometimes qualifying goes like it did today. We obviously didn’t finish where we wanted to but for much of the session we looked pretty good, especially halfway through the […]

Massa happy with long run pace

Despite a spin during practice, Felipe Massa has said that he remains confident over Ferrari's long run pace. Massa is aiming to win his home race and claim his first victory in four years, although he also knows he has to play the team game for Fernando Alonso's championship aspirations. "A very busy Friday in terms of our work on track, with a lot of kilometres completed to find the best set-up for the car", he said. "I am reasonably pleased with my times, especially […]

Hamilton quickest as teams test 2013 tyres

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time in opening practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix. In dry and sunny conditions, Hamilton's time of 1:14.131 was good enough to stay on top. Teams concentrated on tyre work as Pirelli's brought their 2013 compound tyres to Brazil to be trialled. Title contenders Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso were second and fifth respectively. Vettel's best time was set on the hard tyres, while Alonso set his best on the test tyres. The session passed without serious incident, save for […]

Grosjean admits 'no signature' yet for 2013

Romain Grosjean has admitted he is yet to sign on the dotted line for 2013. Early this week, as publications mused the likely shape of the 2013 grid, it emerged there could still be question marks about Lotus' next lineup. On paper, the team is expected to keep the Eric Boullier-linked fellow Frenchman Grosjean, who is strongly backed by important team sponsor Total. And Kimi Raikkonen's 2013 contract has already been announced. But Germany's Auto Motor und Sport said Raikkonen's place could actually be in […]

Raikkonen aiming to secure bronze in championship

Kimi Raikkonen has said that he will head to the Brazilian Grand Prix with the target of securing third in the championship. Raikkonen was sixth in Austin, while current fourth placed man Lewis Hamilton won the race. "It was an okay day, but not a very easy one for us. I got a bad start and then I touched with a Force India at the second corner so I lost a few more places", he said. "After that the car was okay and I could […]

Satisfying race and points for Hulkenberg

It was another race with points for Nico Hulkenberg in Austin as he drove his Force India to eighth place. Hulkenberg started from sixth but could ultimately not stay with the cars ahead of him. "Another tough race but very satisfying to have so many good battles and score another four points. I think we squeezed the maximum from the car and should be pleased with what we achieved. For the first few laps we looked very strong, but after lap ten the tyres started […]

Marko criticises Webber in Abu Dhabi

Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko has pointed some criticism at Mark Webber, after the Australian bowed out of mathematical contention for the 2012 title with a messy race in Abu Dhabi. Webber made a bad start on Sunday, losing key places, until he clashed with Pastor Maldonado. But as he pushed to recover from that spin, his second clash was with Ferrari's Felipe Massa, before he crashed heavily as Sergio Perez, Romain Grosjean and Paul di Resta fought for position. "You can't have more errors […]

Downbeat Massa rues Webber clash

Felipe Massa was left to regret a collision with Mark Webber during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Massa spun at Turn 13 but recovered to seventh place. "It was a difficult race for me. In particular, I suffered on the Softs because of more degradation than we had expected. On Friday, the long run seemed much better: we must understand what changed compared to two days ago. I had problems with the balance: understeer in the fast corners and oversteer in the slow ones", he […]

Kovalainen blames spin on traffic

Heikki Kovalainen lamented traffic on his final run in Q1 that left him down in 20th place. The Finn spun exiting Turn 10 and beached his Caterham in the gravel. "There was more to come but I had a bit of traffic that held me up and then on my second run I caught up with a bunch of cars going into turn 10 and lost a bit of grip, enough to put me off", he said. "I wasn’t going in too hard and there […]

Vettel claims pole in India

Sebastian Vettel claimed the 35th pole position of his career at the Buddh International Circuit. The German driver eclipsed team-mate Mark Webber by a tenth of a second to secure pole again in India. Vettel made a mistake on his first run in Q3 but made amends on his second run by setting the fastest lap time. Behind the two Red Bulls were the McLaren and Ferrari drivers; Hamilton, Button, Alonso and Massa. The Brazilian driver survived a spin in Q2 to make it through […]

Vettel takes pole in Japan

Sebastian Vettel took his 34th career pole position - moving to third in the all-time list - after setting the fastest time in qualifying. Vettel set the fastest time for the first time since the European Grand Prix in June to take his fourth successive Suzuka pole at a track where he has never been beaten in qualifying. Mark Webber joins his team mate on the front row, ahead of Jenson Button, although the British driver drops five places on the grid following a gearbox […]
